It’s been spreading from coast to coast through all levels of lacrosse.

We’re talking about parity, folks.

The days of dominant teams rolling past whatever competition comes their way are over just about everywhere.

And now, here in the Hudson Valley/Long Island/Connecticut region.

Just look at the scores of what is still a young season. (Go ahead, look at some of them in our latest poll question.)

Wild and wacky stuff — with plenty more surprises on the way.

Including, most likely, today.

On the slate today in Long Island, Islip visits Shoreham-Wading River for a 4:30 p.m. game. In other 4:30 p.m. action, Garden City visits Carey, Kennedy Bellmore is at Wantagh, West Hempstead hosts Bethpage, Uniondale is at Oceanside, Southampton visits East Hompton, Bellport hosts Bayport-Blue Point, Comsewogue hosts Kings Park and Center Moriches visits Babylon. At 5 p.m. Hauppauge visits Mount Sinai.

In the Hudson Valley, Rockland rivals Clarkstown North and Tappan Zee meet at TZ and Albertus Magnus and Clarkstown North meet at Magnus at 4:15 p.m. At 5 p.m., North Rockland hosts Nanuet. At 4:30 p.m., Suffern hosts Warwick, Edgemont visits White Plains, Ardsley plays Saunders at Tibbertts Brook Park in Yonkers, Scarsdale hosts Hastings and Irvington is at Mamroneck.

Among just a handful of games in Connecticut, Norwalk visits Trumbull on the turf field at McDougall Stadium at 7 p.m.

As always, be sure to post your thoughts on these matchups as well as any info on the scores and game details.

    Indeed, Mr. L.,

Graduation, like the draft in pro sports is a great equalizer. Plus, when you add in the growth of the sport in this region anyway the growing level of parity makes sense.

Section One still has its flagship teams, but it is great to see other schools making large strides in the right direction.

And as much as many (young players especially) too often like to bash Lew Janavey at Westrock (because maybe they don’t get the invitation), his organization’s impact on the region is notable. His teams include large numbers of players from all the high level school teams, especially Mahopac, Rye, L/P and others as far as Rockland, who’s programs have benefited greatly. My hat is off to Lew for helping to elevate the entire section, the players and the high school coaches. Add in the other summer programs and the high school coaches have done excellent work and the growth in parity is fun to see.

Keep going, Roosevelt, you young men are pioneers and are paving the way for those who come after you!

Kudos to Al Roker for the weather today!

I have a question about Parity in Sect 8 for the LI guys, How can Wantagh lose by 7 to Farmingdale then beat Pequa by 8. I know class A in sect 8 is a dog eat dog class and this year looks no different but in B and C seeing some cream rising. B GC & Wantagh and in C looks like Sett and CSH. Who looks strongest in A?

  3. no_style_points says:

Ah, Rugger, you have asked the prevailing question of all questions regarding sports media, fans and reality.

It’s easy to explain how Wantagh can do what it’s done.

    Each game is different.

There are no style points awarded in sports. That is a fabrication of ESPN and sportstalk radio, where announcers must fill a lot of air time and have something to talk about. So, they espouse their hyperbole on what they think SHOULD happen, according to them, in their own private Idaho’s. It has nothing to do with reality. This is a competitive atmosphere and the games are being played by competitive young men. Sometimes they have good days, other days not so good. Sometimes, the underdog, (yes, even in lacrosse) can rise up and play over their heads. Still other times, hey, “stuff hapens”.

Anything can happen on any given day…and often does.

That’s why we play the games and why the games are glorious.

    Udaman, Old Rugger!
