North Salem, an upstart program in Section 1 circles, is getting ready for what promises to be an interesting season.

The Tigers will be playing plenty of games at home — or close to home — thanks to the newly aligned Section 1.

Providing thoughts on this is North Salem’s 6-foot-4 senior defenseman Chris Wood, who is bound for Division III power Salisbury, which picked up a big win last week over defending national champion Cortland State.

What have you been doing to get ready for the season?
I’ve been in the gym everyday lifting and conditioning. Any chance I got to toss the ball around I did, but it’s tough with it being winter.

Can you talk about some of the key players you lost from last year and how you think you will be able to replace them?
We only graduated three seniors last year, and in one case, it was his first year playing. The only real key player we lost was Andrew Ragazzino who was a good outside scorer. The way we are trying to replace him is by moving some attack men up to midfield.

How does your schedule look and which ones are you looking forward to most?
Our schedule looks tough, but I think we will be able to pull through with close games coming out on top at the end. The games I’m looking forward to playing most are Ossining, JFK and Hen Hud.

What players on your team do you think will surprise some people this season?
The one player I think that will surprise a lot of people is senior Max Loeb, a former midfield and attackmen. But for this season he has moved to goalie. Even though it’ss his first year as goalie I think he is going to step up and have a lot of big games.

What were the main factors in your decision to attend Salisbury and what other schools were you considering?
Some of the main factors are I love Maryland and always have. Coach Tim Berkman is a great coach and runs a great program that I really wanted to a part of and I love the name Salisbury has made for itself.

Great for a lesser known Sec. 1 program to send a kid to a top D3 school! Hope the program keeps progressing.

  9. Dan B says:

    lacroosser,

Rolling the kid inside is part of the D. If the coma slide doesn’t come, it’s not Chris’s fault. In this case, by rolling and doing what the D was looking for, Chris man handled “brando.”

    Good luck next year Chris.

Funny how most of the goals came topside HMMMMM. Brando is a man child.

  11. scooter says:
