The Greenwich Cardinals have started a new era.

Former Darien star and longtime Blue Wave assistant Scott Bulkley has taken over as the team’s head coach.

There’s lots to talk about when it comes to Cardinals lax.

And we did just that with Bryant University-bound senior midfielder Colin Dunster, whose brother Jimmy, is a starting midfielder for undefeated North Carolina.

What are your thoughts on having a new coach to start your final season and how has the transition been going to Coach Bulkley?
Well, I had Coach (Paul) Burke for three years, and he will definitely be missed, but I think a new coach will spark up our team and that is exactly what we need. The transition has gone well so far. Everyone has introduced him to our program wonderfully.  All the players are ready to learn and work hard.

What have you been doing to get ready for the season?
I’ve been running, working out, getting the team in shape, and doing other things such as teaching the new offense to the team.  Anything to get ready for the season.

Can you talk about some of the key players you lost from last year and how you think you will be able to replace them, especially on defense and in goal?
We’re losing our goalie from last year Kyle Feeney who will be very difficult to replace, Jared Horowitz who saw limited playing time last year due to injury, and a couple other seniors.  The goalies will be competing for the starting spot and hopefully the best will win that job. As for attack, the newly acquired David Dickson will be very dangerous.

What players on your team do you think will surprise some people this season?
I think Dickson will be a surprise to most teams, as well as some midfielders, both juniors and sophomores, who will look to make names for themselves.

What regular-season games are you most looking forward to?
The regular-season games that I look forward to are Brunswick, our crosstown rivals, and also Darien as it will be one of the biggest games.

What do you think the strength of your team will be this year?
The strengths of the team this year will definitely be coaching, as most teams will see stuff completely different than they have in recent years, and a newly motivated team.  I also think that our offense will look to take over games and try to get on the scoreboard through hard work and aggressiveness.
