Late tonight, I got word of yet another major junior class commitment.

Andreassi, a returning all-county performer, also considered Syracuse, Dartmouth, Army and Loyola.

“Mike is an extremly hard worker who has really developed over the last year,” Sachem North coach Jay Mauro said. “His ability to get his hands free both righty and lefty while shooting on the run is very impressive at such an early age.

“We will be using him at not just attack this year but also midfield. I believe he will fit in very well with Coach (Greg) Cannella and UMass.”

Here’s a Q&A with Michael on his commitment:

What were the main factors in your decision to attend UMass?
It’s a large school with good academics and a strong lacrosse program. They have a great coaching staff and team players. The whole program made me feel welcome.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I was considering Syracuse, West Point, Dartmouth and Loyola. I visited all of them.

What adjustments do you think you will need to make to play at the next level?
Get stronger and faster to keep up with the speed of the game, and fine-tuning my stick skills and shooting ability.

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
I can shoot righty and lefty with equal strenght on the run and with room and time. I have good field vision and knowledge of the game. My style of play is aggressive, ground balls win games.

What players have you looked up to as you have moved up through the varsity ranks?
I have looked up to my older brother (Marc), who was a three-time varsity starter and all-county performer and is now playing at C.W. Post.

When did you first realize you had the potential to play at the D-I level?
After my coaches moved me up to varsity in ninth grade and I was one of the starting attackmen. With all my success that season as a freshman, it really got me to believe that I had the potential to play D-1 lacrosse.
