We continue to follow up with our “Breaking recruiting news” updates by taking more in-depth looks at the commitments we have been reporting on.

Next up is Clarkstown South standout Sean Day, who committed to Union College in Schenectady earlier this week.

Here’s a  Q & A with Sean on his commitment:

What were the main factors in your decision to attend Union?
Academics as well as athletics. I want to major in engineering, and Union has a strong program which attracted me. I’m planning on doing mechanical engineering or bioengineering. I first heard about Union from my high school coach, Coach (Adam) Chagares. He played for (Union) Coach (Paul) Wehrum at Herkimer (Community College) and suggested that Union would be a good fit for me. After speaking with Coach Wehrum and visiting the school, I had to agree. I liked the coaching staff, and players that I talked to had only the best things to say about the coaches and the school.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
After researching and visiting a number of other schools, Union was my clear first choice. A few other schools I visited were Tufts, Boston University, Lehigh and Northeastern.

What adjustments do you think you will need to make to play at the next level?
In order to play at the next level, I know I will have to make adjustments and I hope to improve all aspects of my game between now and then. Stick skills are obviously important, and I plan to continue to hit the wall on a regular basis as well as work on my shooting. Lifting is also a priority for me right now because I feel that it will allow me to play and compete at a higher level in college.

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
I would describe my style of play as fast-paced and aggressive. I like to think I am the type of player who will do whatever it takes to help my team win. With my speed I feel as though I can create offense by dodging as well as help in transition during clears.

What players have you looked up to as you have moved up through the varsity ranks?
Since my freshman year, I have played with a lot of great players on varsity and I have learned a lot from. My freshman year, we had a high scoring starting attack line that included James Conlon, John Gabriel, and Jimmy Comfort. I learned a lot about offensive concepts from those guys. The starting midfielders that year were all juniors so I got to play with them for two years. They were James Devine, Tom Riley and Aaron Fishkin and while they taught me more than I can remember about lacrosse, the most important thing was hard work and giving 100 percent all the time.
