Winter technically doesn’t start for a few more weeks, of course, but with the fall lacrosse calendar now complete, what better time to look ahead to some events that are on tap the next couple of months leading into the start of the 2010 season?

Check the second page of this post for a rundown of what’s going on in the Hudson Valley/Long Island/Connecticut region.

Before we get to the winter rundown, here’s a quick look ahead to next spring. The Section 1 master schedule has just gone up on the Section 1 site. You can check it out here. Important note: At this point, the schedule includes just the assigned league games, however.

You can use the pull-down menu to access games for the team or teams you’re interested in by clicking here.

We will, of course, post the schedules for Nassau, Suffolk and Connecticut when they are released.

Sometime in the last few days, the tentative (and I emphasize, tentative and incomplete) Section 1 league schedules for next season went up on the Section 1 site. Schedules for sections 8 and 11 and Connecticut are not yet up. Important note: At this point, the schedule includes just the assigned league games, however. So we still have a long way to go.

You can access all those league games now up by checking this link:

    http://sportspakdb.lhric.org/gameschedule.asp?school=&sport=BLX&level=V&startMonth=2&startDay=15&startYear=2010&endMonth=5&endDay=29&endYear=2010&printthis=1&ShowScores=false&AllVisitors=false&Run=1

  2. PV Lax says:

Thanks for getting these up as soon as they came out Joe. Have a good idea about the non league schedules of the top teams based on your previous reports throughout the offseason.

  3. ref for a day says:

Joe, why do they schedule these league games on days that we know they aren’t going to play them. ie, Lakeland v. Yorktown is scheduled on TUESDAY May 11th. When we all know that is always played on the FIRST SATURDAY in May. Likely the 1st.

  4. Joe Lombardi says:

    Ref –

They are basically a rough draft of games that must be played (i.e. league games), but the schools are free to reschedule them as they see fit.

There is no real input in scheduling the dates at this point in the process.

  5. Joe Lombardi says:

We’ve been updating non-league schedules for various teams the last few weeks, folks.

Today, Mahopac co-coach Mike Haddeland reported his non-league games are: East Islip (home), Mercer Island (home), Somers (away), Horace Greeley (home), Northport (away), White Plaines (away), Guilderland (at Marist College), and Suffern (home).

In addition, the ‘Pac will play crossover games vs. Ossining, Put Valley and Hen Hud.

  6. scooter says:

I heard that John Jay is considering moving to class A for this season. Any truths to that?

  7. fan says:

that is not true john jay is staying in class B……

  8. Joe Lombardi says:

John Jay is remaining in Class B. There is no truth to any rumors to the contrary.

  9. hvlaxfan says:

These schedules look very repetitive and boring. Each team playing 3 other teams 2-3 times? I don’t understand why…

  10. Joe Lombardi says:

It’s official, folks. Ridgefield assistant Don Connolly will be taking over as head coach at Arlington. The former Yorktown standout’s appointment has been approved by the Arlington school board. Donny tells me that Steve Settembrino and Joe Coloruso will be joining him as assistants. It will be interesting to see how the program continues to evolves and grow into a potential sectional power in the years to come. Stay tuned.

  11. fan says:

    Who will be Colsey assistant?????????

  12. slacrosse says:

    hvlaxfan,

Oh come on. You dont see the “logic” behind the Sec 1 ADs in their scheduling decision??

As an example, evidently its better “cost wise” for rye, jay and somers to travel 25 minutes up and down 684 for home/home games but its NOT cost effective for rye to travel the SAME 25 minutes, get off at the same exit on 684 to play Town!!

By the time the teams schedule their 8 “pick-up” games including “out of Section 1 games”, the costs will not change and may even rise!

Only in Section 1 VERSUS THE REST OF THE STATE would you end up with lacrosse teams having to play each other twice!

Hey at least the number of games was not reduced (I think) as they did in Football–which didn’t help Section 1 at the Dome.

  13. fan says:

yes it was reduced from 18-16 games

  14. slacrosse says:

    fan,
    Thx. Should have figured.

  15. Dog-Lax says:

Tim Schurr has signed on to be Roy’s Asst at Ridgefield.

  16. brandy says:

Interesting. According to the Ridgefield HS Lax site, Alfredo Meola and Nate Loeb are the only listed assistant’s.

  17. Vinny Lips says:

Timmy is undecided as of now where he will be next year, all though I wouldn’t be surprised if he end’s up at RHS. Al left the head job at Briarcliff to be an assistant at Ridgefield. He lives in Ridgefield as well.

  18. Joe Lombardi says:

Here’s some more crossover game news.

Lakeland/Panas coach Jim Lindsay reports that the Rebels will be playing Mercer Island (Wash.), Penn Yan and Shaker as home games.

The Rebels will also be playing two or three games in Seattle, vs. Bellevue and either Washington defending state champ Issaquah or the defending Oregon state champ.

In addition, LP will be playing Somers, Greeley, Suffern and John Jay at home.

I’ll have a look at Puyt Valley’s non-league games later today, so chgeck back for that.

  19. Joe Lombardi says:

Putnam Valley’s 2010 crossovers will be against, first and foremost, longtime rival Rye, as well as Yorktown, Lakeland/Panas, Mahopac, Brewster, Suffern, Byram Hills, Bronxville and Fox Lane.

  20. Joe Lombardi says:

Just one game on John Jay’s schedule has yet to be finalized as far as a date goes — vs. St. Anthony”s. Here’s home it looks now:

  22. hvlaxfan says:

    slacrosse-

No, I still don’t see the logic. And can’t tell if you’re being sarcastic. Either way I still believe the previous schedules were more effective in terms of getting the most competition while providing great games for the fans.

  23. fan says:

Wow JJ has a pretty stacked schedule. They could have at least 8 or 9 losses.

  24. laxfan says:

Maybe Tim is headed to jj

  25. Joe Lombardi says:

Here’s a rundown of Yorktown’s non-section games for 2010. This is tentative, though, and subject to change.

The games are against the following: Ward Melville, Chaminade, St Anthony’s, Garden City, Darien, Wilton and Ridgefield

  26. lax65 says:

haha can anyone say toughest schedule ever?? Guess coach Marr doesnt mind if they are supposely “down” this year…. much respect!

  27. slacrosse says:

    hvlaxfan,

Was being sarcastic. Totally agree with you.

  28. slacrosse says:

Hey as usual great non Section 1 scheds by Town and Jay. Dont know about the results but will certainly make both teams “battle tested” with elite comp!

  29. springlax says:

JJ went 10-9 in 2009, a down year for the Indians. That was then this is now. Jay will lose a few games this Spring, but based on the new scheduling—playing five section one teams twice–and Jay’s returning line-up, one would expect more Ws and less Ls. The new scheduling will make stretches of the 2010 season downright dull.

  30. Joe Lombardi says:

Somers’ schedule is still a work in progress. Here’s a rough draft of how it looks:

    Preseason

March 20, Red and Gray Classic at Somers

    Fox Lane
    St Anthony’s
    Guilderland
    Don Bosco
    Auburn

    March 27 Somers

    Hen Hud
    Arlington
    TBA

    March 30 at White Plains

    White Plains
    Bronxville
    Suffern

    Other scrimmages TBA

    Regular-season crossovers:

    Ridgefield

Yorktown (probably Tuesday, April 27 at 7 p.m. at Somers)

Lakeland/ Panas, 7:15 p.m. 4/24 at Somers HS. (Also of note, all the Shrub Oak and Somers youth teams from second grad to JV will play that day prior to the varsity game.
    .
    Iona Prep

Penn Yan at University at Albany (Saturday, May 1 before Albany-Binghamton game)

Niskayuna (Saturday, May 8 at 7 p.m. at Somers)

    Montgomery (N.J,)

    Mahopac

  31. Iceman says:

    Just an FYI for slacrosse,

Section I is not the only area in the state where teams will be facing league opponents twice in the regular season. Sections II, III, IV, IX, and X have all been doing it.

Those sections will not be able to create league schedules where an opponent is played only once in the regular season until their respective Section adds enough programs. (The exception would be Section III, I guess they just like their league alignments the way they are)

  32. franklyscarlett says:

Ridgefield wishes Don all the best. May the Arlington players listen as Don only speaks wisdom.

  33. slacrosse says:

    iceman,

Thanx. Takes a bit of the negative sting out of this scheduling thing knowing that it may apply more uniformly throughout the State.

  34. Joe Lombardi says:

We now have dates for Somers’ 2010 schedule.

    Here it is:

    Scrimmages

    March 20 – Red/Gray Classic at Somers
(Fox Lane, Auburn, Don Bosco, Guilderland, St Anthony’s)

March 27 – Arlington, Hen Hud at Somers

March 30 – Somers, Bronxville, Suffern at White Plains

    Regular season

  35. radlax says:

Who’s coaching briarcliff if Al and Tim both left? don’t sleep on Put valley in the “c”, the lost a lot of scoring but return thier d and goalie.

  36. Gonzo says:

Al Meola is still the head coach at Briarcliff regardless of what the Ridgefield website says. That is 100% certain. Tim Schurr’s situation is a bigger question mark; maybe he is going to Ridgefield but I don’t think that is confirmed.

  37. BigBadBear says:

excellent news, Gonzo, Al is the man

  38. Wave-Lax says:

Sorry to burst your bubble ladies. I have spoken to Al, and Roy. Al is at Ridgefield!!

  39. Gonzo says:

Wow–Wave-Lax you are right. Alfredo is in fact going to Ridgefield. my bad. Nice pick-up for Ridgefield. Supposedly Briarcliff has a new coach lined up but don’t know any details

  40. bears4eva says:

    sav’s coming to the cliff?

  41. Gonzo says:

No Sav’s to Cliff. New head coach is going to be Paul Bordonero (ex-Ytown player) who was Briarcliff’s modified coach last year. Lew Ralston (sp?) who worked with Briarcliff’s goalies last year will be the asst. Players were informed yesterday by the AD.

  42. slice says:

No experience on the varsity level = Briacliff loseses

  43. Sec1 says:

    Slice

Well if your going to have a coach that has not been a Varsity Head Coach, then let it be a guy from Yorktown.. I am pretty sure most of the coaches that went to Yorktown have faired pretty well lol.

  44. Crease D says:

“Patience is a virtue”. The Bears have a strong, passionate, committed and well coached youth lacrosse program that is returning for its 4th season, nearly half the boys & girls in each grade are picking up sticks in 3rd grade. Briarcliff Bear lacrosse is hungry and is being well fed. New Varsity Coach Paul Bordonaro is young, enthusiastic and extremely well liked/respected by the players. A look over the hill says a program like theirs will be make its mark in the not too distant future

  45. Shane says:

    Some interesting clinics.

  46. RoarLax says:

    Nice listing of events.

  47. Laxit says:

I wish the winter would hurry up and get over so we can get on to the real lax season already.

  48. Laxit says:

    Good info. Thanks.
