press1Briarcliff senior midfielder Troy Press will be taking
his skills and athleticism to Division II
Wingate University in North Carolina.

National signing week is now officially history, gang.

We, of course, brought you real-time updates on all the commitments (and even decommitments) as they happened these last few months. We’ve also put together a rundown of who’s going where among players in the nation’s top lacrosse hotbed — the Hudson Valley/Long Island/Connecticut region. Be sure to check it out by clicking here.

One of the players included is Briarcliff midfielder Troy Press, who will be taking his skills and athleticism to Division II Wingate University in Wingate, N.C.

Here’s a Q & A with Troy on his commitment:

When did you visit Wingate and what were your thoughts?
I went to Wingate in the middle of October for my overnight visit. I loved the campus and the location because I knew I wanted to go south and North Carolina was a perfect fit. The coaches and the team made me feel very comfortable.

What other schools did you consider?
I also looked at Catawba, Guilford, Greensboro, Drew, Oneonta and a few others.

How has playing basketball helped you in lacrosse?
On the defensive side, it’s very similar, for example, being in help defense and zone defense. On the offensive side, it’s helped me create space for myself and to see the field.

Are there other parts of your game you need to work on in preparation for the next level?
Playing at the next level my quickness and elusiveness will help me compete. I need to continue to work out to get stronger and to work on my stick skills.
