koelschYorktown rising senior goaltender Derek Koelsch,
who performed well in several summer showcase events,
has committed to Trinity in Hartford, Conn.

The recruiting commitments continue to come in on a daily basis, folks.

Just moments ago, one of the top rising senior goaltenders in the region, Yorktown’s Derek Koelsch, committed to attend Trinity College, an elite Division III program both academically and athletically.

Be sure to read Derek’s thoughts on the jump.

Here’s a Q&A I did with Derek about his selection and his thoughts on the recruiting process:

When did you unofficially visit Trinity and what were your thoughts?
I visited Trinity on July 17 with my parents.  I made a great connection with Coach (James) Finlay. He opened up his entire day for me and we spent about four hours talking and touring the campus.
What other schools did you visit and what other schools did you consider?
Colby, SUNY Geneseo and Tufts.
What did you like about the school itself and the lacrosse program specifically?
The campus was beautiful and I was drawn to the NESCAC league because of the great competition.  I liked Coach Finlay’s honesty and openness.  He focuses on a strong defense and coming from a program like Brown, he knows what it takes to win.
How have you been preparing for next season?
I have been lifting every day at Club Fit with some of my teammates.  Also, I have been lucky enough to have some great alumni and current players around to shoot on me almost every day (including Rocky Bonitatibus, Joey Porcelli, John Ranagan, Remy Lieberman and Jack Farrell). I played for the Yorktown Ballers and the Hudson Valley team (in the Nike New York State Shootout).

  4. Mark says:

Glad he picked Trinity–as an alum from there–but wonder how he feels after it was announced about two weeks after his commiting that the head coach left for Harvard. No new head coach for Trinity has been announced yet. I hope he stays with the Bantams.
