Both Somers and Ward Melville stated their case during the regular season.

That’s when the Tuskers beat John Jay for the first time since 2003 and the Patriots, who earlier in the season knocked Yorktown from the unbeaten ranks, did the same to West Islip on May 4.

Now, Somers is preparing to meet John Jay again and Ward Melville is set to square off one more time against West Islip.

Only now, the stakes are much higher.

I’ll be on hand at White Plains for the Section1 finals and Chris Kieser will be reporting from Stony Brook University, the site of the Section 11 finals.

    Hey gang –

In case you missed it, here’s the link from the main body of this post to the NYS tournament bracket:

    http://www.bracketmaker.com/tlist.cfm?tid=319312

  2. lax says:

    where are the all sectionns??

  3. Joe Lombardi says:

Though the all-section team was selected Monday night, in years past, it has taken a few days for the coaches to then input the names and type them all up. I checked on the status earlier this week and that process had not yet started, so I can’t give a definitive date. All I can tell you is when I have them, you’ll have them.

  4. LI Lax says:

    Predictions

  7. Unbiased opinion says:

    Yorktown by 5
    JJ by at least 7
    Rye runs house on PV

  8. syracuse says:

I gotta wonder just how unbiased any opinion is when someone picks John Jay to win an evenly matched game, for all intents and purposes, by 7 goals. If Jay does as you say, then Nisky better watch out.

  9. LI Lax says:

Heading out to the Suffolk games now, good luck to all the teams playing today

  10. Joe Lombardi says:

We’re here at White Plains where Billy Reis scored in the opening minute to give Put Valley a 1-0 lead.

  130. BigBadBear says:

great day at WP, wonderful venue, loved the pic’s of the kids..Fazio is now my second favorite high school lax player (kid still is #1) of all time, I do not believe I have ever seen a size mis-match like that in any sport, more than a foot and probably 100 lbs to Ranagan..wow…Coach Lindasy, what a great job, and the goalie was awesome..PV could have won their game easier in my view had they sharpened their shot selection, and come a bit quicker with the slide like the did in the second half…once Santagelo got hurt, he was not the same, that hurt Rye, hats off to him for gutting it out..JJ looked a bit confused in their zone, but they played with heart, loved the Daniello kid..

And one final note, congrats to my Bears for winning the sportsmanship award~

  138. LacrosseInsider says:

Congrats to Somers, they played a great game and were the better team tonight. How can anyone argue that Coach Lew is not the coach of the year after tonight?! He did a great job with that team. Good luck to all Section 1 teams that are moving on to games next week. Jay will be back next year, bigger and stronger!

  139. Sec 1 ZLax Fan says:

JJ D let up some easy looks in first half and had no middie push during the game. O was driven by Daniello inverted. JoJo had some nice shots and Somers shot well as a team

  140. Jubilant Juniors says:

Congratulations to Somers on their Section title !!! We will miss JoJo next season but our juniors ( Petre, Pfiffner, Deiana, Tullgren, Partenza, Longo, Bello, Smith, DePaolis, Madigan and Sullivan) will be back next year, bigger and stronger !!!!!

  141. slacrosse says:

Congrats to PV with a great win today. You were definitely the better team today.

Good luck in the states and to the seniors who understandably must have taken extra joy out of this as they can at least record a Section 1 Class C Title as they finish their careers.

  142. slacrosse says:

I know it must be tough right now but congratulations Rye on finishing up a very good season with numbers of good wins including over the Class B champs and the finalist in the Class A championships.

Hold your heads high seniors as you finished your high school careers winning the Class C Championship during your soph and junior years and played critical roles in taking Rye to the Dome this year and last yr winning the State football championship. Other seniors were key players in other great Rye sports teams.

Good luck to all you guys as you move on to college and PG years and in continuing to play lacrosse.

Congrats to the sophs and juniors. You made great progress this season and really contributed in major ways. Play hard and improve this summer and good luck next season.

  143. slacrosse says:

Great convincing win today Somers and best of luck going forward in the states. Good job by the goalie and as well to see balanced scoring from guys other then Jo.

Congrats to all the Jay seniors on great careers and good luck in the future.

  144. slacrosse says:

It’s obvious that Daniello is a special player. I believe that he and Jack O’Callaghan (Rye) lead the elite attack and middies in next season’s Junior class.

  145. franklyscarlett says:

Good luck to all the Sec. 1 teams moving on. A class game sounds like it was a good one.

  146. Joe Lombardi says:

    slacrosse –

It was great meeting you yesterday. I agree about Daniello of course. I projected he would be a major D-I player before he even played a varsity game — which I suppose was going out on a limb. I think there’s little doubt it will happen now, especially with the scores of college coaches in attendance yesterday.

  147. The Color Purple says:

For those of you that critisized coach Lew, and the name ” RED RAGE”, his supposed lack of scouting, and you think he is all about himself. One word for you IGNORANT. He took over a program that all though has talent and athletes was in turmoil. Kids no longer wanted to play, and others had all ready left. Lew, and Brian came in and gave them something to believe in, assured them they would be successful again.Getting Lombardo, Deiana, and others back was huge in both depth, and Moral. Lew lets kids know they are truly a TEAM, and they have a family stick together through thick and thin attitude. He is truly one of the best motivators in Section 1 in any sport. Then , in getting everyone involved in the offense, and using athleticism in running multiple defenses, culminated in a Championship Last night. Lew , Brian, and all Tusker Nation stick out your chest and walk proud. Because the Indians had NO answer.
John Jay was out hustled and out coached last night. Congrats to Lake/Panas you guys left it on the field. And to PV, and Town lets keep it rolling.

  148. re:lax says:

    Purple-

Enjoy the moment. Congrats on the sectional title, but don’t get too far out there. Beating Jay is nice, but Jay has always been more talk than trophy in the states. The “rage” got beaten pretty handily by the Field, and I would expect it will get handled at least as badly from Nisky. Just sayin.

  149. max says:

Lew inherited this program he did not build this. lets see how he does the next few years. It is like marr coming in his first year and winning states. A sign of a good coach is developing kids and winning year in and year out

  150. Iceman says:

I’d like to add a two observations that I felt were game changers during the class A title game yesterday. Both involve grossly incompetant game calls.

Scenario 1: A yorktown defenseman was playing the attackman with the ball in the corner of the field closest to Lakeland’s bench. He was applying alot of pressure (which is fine) however he inadvertantly brought his stick up the attackman’s chest, got hooked under the players chin, and wound up lifting the players Pro 7 helmet almost off his head.
    Blown call: No flag
Result: Instead of an L/P possession, yorktown gets the ball

Scenario 2: Lakeland is man up and Rebel attack #6 makes a skip pass which is deflected off of a yorktown (#18 I believe) long pole’s shaft. There is a ref on the side where the pass came from and a ref on the side where the deflected pass went out of bounds.
Blown Call: Neither sees the ball make contact with the defenseman’s shaft and incorrectly award yorktown the ball.
Result: Instead of L/P being man up – Town gets the ball, Lieberman scores

Iceman….It hurts to loose, but every game has their questionable calls. Town has had more than their share in the past. The Umps seemed fair at the section 1 final, no big grumbles about that. Be a sport and Move On already.
