Reaching the 100-career goal mark in high school lacrosse is a rare feat.

Today, Syracus University-bound Somers star JoJo Marasco accomplished something even more unusual.

Marasco scored his 200th career goal today as Somers won at Brewster 13-7.

• New York state all-time goal-scoring leaders

Marasco, who had four goals and four assists, now has 202 goals for his career, the highest total in school history.

“The accomplishment means a great deal to me,” Marasco said. “It really shows how hard work and dedication really gave me an opportunity to score 200 goals in high school.

“From my parents pushing me to every coach that has ever coached me, I give them the utmost respect. I really appreciate what everyone has done for me and I also want to thank every player I have ever played with.”

The Section 1 record for goals in a career is 226, set by 1987 Nanuet graduate Billy Kurisko. The previous Somers school record for career goals was 184, established by 2003 graduate Jordan Rabidou, a two-time all-American for the Tuskers who went on to play at Loyola. (Wait. I think I know that guy.)

Paul Carcaterra, the all-time leading scorer in the history of Section 1’s most tradition-rich program, Yorktown, finished his varsity career with 178 goals.

With the win, Somers, which overcame an early 3-0 deficit against Brewster today, clinched the No. 1 seed in the Section 1 tournament.

Carc also played alot more games because Town made the state finals all the time. It’s interesting though not surprising Jo Jo is playing at the same college — Cuse.

  3. TownLax says:

Congrats Jo Jo. Your performance vs. Town last year had to be one of the best ever ever by a Town opponent. Amazing accomplishment. 200 goals is outrageous.

200 goals is very impressive. I’d like to point out that local Rye sports hero Marc Saracino also has reached this milestone with 205 career goals. I bet no one know that. Congrats to Jo-Jo an amazing athlete and lacrosse player. Good luck at ‘cuse

After what I saw Yesterday, and in recent JJ games. Somers does not have a PRAYER in beating JJ. Its not even close. JJ will win by 6-7 goals.

  9. Jack Frost says:

Who has the most assists in Section 1? I am a fan of this stat more than goals? Congrats to JoJo. Can a grown man still be called JoJo?

  10. LAX says:

I know Tim Nelson from Yorktown and Syracuse still holds the NCAA record for most career assists.
