Two Long Island vs. Westchester showdowns between four of the premier programs in the region.

Two overtime games.

Does it get much better? When it comes to high school lax, I don’t think so.

Before I check back with more on Yorktown’s 9-8 win over Chaminade and John Jay’s 11-10 win over Syosset, I have a quick progamming note.

• Saturday’s scores and highlights

You can catch video highlights of the tying and winning goals from both games, shot by our own videographer extraordinaire Ryan Rabidou, right here. So check back for that.

Also, special thanks to Syracuse for taking my score updates from the  Syosset-John Jay game and uploading them onto the blog. (With no cell service at John Jay, I was fortunate each of my BlackBerry e-mails made it through and even more fortunate that ‘Cuse was on call to post them promptly.)

In addition, be sure to catch video interviews with the following in the coming days:

• Yorktown’s Towson Univeristy-bound defenseman John Fennessy, who talks about Yorktown’s season and the upcoming Under Armour All-America Game on June 27, which he and teammate John Ranagan will be playing in and which conflicts with Yorktown’s graduation. How are they going to resolve that? You’ll find out.

• Yorktown’s Hopkins-bound duo of John Ranagan and Kevin Interlicchio, who describe what happened at the end of regulation and overtime. Ranagan’s goal gave Yorktown an 8-7 lead and Interlicchio’s OT goal won it.

• Chaminade’s Duke-bound defenseman Jimmy O’Neill, who talks about the game, his team’s season and his decision to go to Duke.

• John Jay’s Mike Daniello, who describes the game-winning goal he scored in OT vs. Syosset after John Jay won the opening faceoff of overtime.

• Fellow John Jay sophomore Forrest Walter, who scored four goals tonight and who talks about the progess a team with 12 other sophomore has made this season.

• Syosset’s Eddie Loftus, a senior attackman who will continue a family tradition by attending Duke.

• Syosset’s Jonathan Guzman, who had five goals tonight and who will play football and lacrosse at Westleyan.

• Somers’ Greg Petre, who has emerged as a rising star in Section 1, and who has had three six-goal games for the Tuskers.

• Irvington first-year coach Drew Werney, who has led the upstart Bulldogs to a surprising 8-0 start.

I’m sure you’ll enjoy all these video game highlights and interviews, so be sure to catch them all.

OK, I’ll be back in a bit with some thoughts on today.

Joe that’s awesome you did a vid with Greg Petre. YEH PEACHES!

  4. Joe Lombardi says:

Greg is having a breakout season for the Tuskers with three six-goal games. He has as hard and accurate a shot as you’ll see and is among the best at pinning corners.

We talked with Greg about all that and, oh yeah, I did ask him about the origin of the “Peaches” nickname, too, as well as his thoughts on the upcoming Class B sectionals (Somers appears locked in as the No. 1 seed) and Saturday’s showdown vs. one of the top teams in Connecticut, Cheshire. Look for that interview in the coming days.
