Ridgefield also suffered another major loss when its top defenseman, John Mirra, suffered a knee injury in the first quarter. He could be sidelined for the remainder of the year. The Tigers also learned before the game that faceoff specialist Duncan Morrissey would be unavailable for the game. He is likely to be sidelined through the end of the regular season. Lawrenceville capitalized on his absence by dominating on faceoffs today.

Still Ridgefield appeared to be in control when it jumped out to a 5-1 lead. Lawrenceville then went on a 5-1 run to go ahead 6-5.

Earlier this week, Shoreham-Wading River, Rocky Point and the region’s top-ranked team, West Islip, suffered upset losses.

Lawrenceville is legit. They have some skills and some big boys. We will learn from this and get better. I wouldn’t wanna be Darien now. We aren’t gonna sleep on anyone now.

  2. Nutmegger says:

Darien game is even bigger now. Ridgefield struggled vs Greenwich and doesn’t play any other top teams. If they lose to Darien you would have to say they’re all talk no action.

what about Brunswick vs. Lawrenceville on Friday? Brunswick 10 lville9

  4. spectator says:

Don’t go too bad on Brunswick for losing to Avon Old farms. AOF is 9-2 in the powerhouse New England Prep league and were the only team to beat 16-1 and top ten in the country Deerfield last year. They are very good. 11 wins in a row with a brutal schedule, Brunswick was due to have a flat game. Friday against Lawrenceville will be top notch lacrosse.

Ridgefield offence was impressive when we played them. We only scored five goals but there D looked slow and I guess will be even weaker now. I think Darien’s dynasty will be much harder to take down than some folks think.

The prep school are MUCH better than most people in this area realize. Only the very best of the local public HS (Darien, Y’ktown, Ridgefield) can compete with the average team in the Patriot league and the schools that compete with them such as Brunswick, Lawrenceville, Exeter, Andover, etc. The preps simply have selective admissions – and that selectivity includes athletic ability. Deerfield tops them all.

Preps schools are legit, but you have to make sure you have the right division when you compare them because they all aren’t the same. New England West 1 is the best division. Don’t be fooled by teams with a losing record here. They are still very good. The differences between many of these teams are very small.
