Moments earlier, the Yorktown ‘Huskers had pulled out a 12-10 win against Somers. But there was little celebrating among Yorktown players that dreary and damp May afternoon. In fact, they seemed more relieved than ecstatic.

“If we had lost today, the seniors would have never beaten Somers,” Yorktown coach Dave Marr said.

Other than John Jay (which has won four of its last six against Yorktown), no program in the area has enjoyed as much success this decade against the ‘Huskers than Somers.

Tonight, the Tuskers and ‘Huskers meet in a matchup of unbeaten teams at Charlie Murphy Field at 7 p.m. Please join us as we preview that mega matchup and four other big ones today.

On paper, Yorktown enters as the heavy favorite. But that was the case last year, and the Tuskers still managed to take ‘Town down to the wire, led by the spectacular performance of Joe Marasco, who scored five goals.

Tonight, the Syracuse-bound Marasco (the No. 8 senior in the nation by Inside Lacrosse) is one of three of the nation’s elite recruits who will be on display, joining a pair of Hopkins-bound Yorktown stars: senior midfielder John Ranagan and junior attackman Kevin Interlicchio. Interlicchio, of course, has scored a jaw-dropping 19 goals in Yorktown’s three games.

Starting today, we are adding a new wrinkle here to the “Today’s Top 5/Score updates” feature. You may have noticed, it is now “Today’s Top 5/Predictions/Score updates.”

That’s a pretty versatile and well-rounded story for you, folks.

With today’s edition, for every “Top 5” game, you will get a score prediction from me. See what you think, and then be sure to weigh in with your pick. Here’s our first:

Prediction: Yorktown 12, Somers 7

Trivia question: Post your responses below, gang. When did Somers beat Yorktown for the first time. If you really have the memory of an elephant all you Tuskers, throw in the score and some game details.

OK, one down, four to go.

• Rye faces John Jay at 2 p.m. in a matchup of teams that have won four straight Section 1 titles. (Rye in Class C. John Jay in Class B.) Game-time is 2 p.m. in Cross River.

One thing that is safe to predict is this. The teams will have to go a long way to top the drama of last year’s meeting when Rye edged the Indians 9-8 in overtime to snap John Jay’s 47-game win streak vs. Section 1 teams.

Both teams’ offenses are ahead of their defenses right now. And actually, that might wind up being the case the entire season. So this much is certain. (Or at least as certain as we can be in this case.) This one will not exactly be an up-and-down, run ‘n’ gun battle.

Prediction: John Jay 7, Rye 5

There are some interesting games on the Island today:

• West Islip hosts Floyd at 10 a.m.

Prediction: WI 12-4

• Manhasset visits Comsewogue at 7 p.m.

Prediction: ‘Set 14-5

• Plainedge plays at Massapequa at 7:15 p.m.

Prediction: ‘Pequa 10-8

  1. Observer says:

If Somers can hold Interliccio to 3 goals they have a good shot. 0ther attackmen for Town can’t match his scoring to put it tactfully and Ranagan as a middie won’t get more than 2 or 3 though he’s a stud.
    Somers 10, Town 9, OT

  2. Fred says:

The first time Somers beat Town was 2002. That year Somers was the cream of the crop in section 1. They went 22-1 with their only loss coming in the state semis. They finished the season ranked #12 in the country.

  3. Joe Lombardi says:

Ding. Ding. Ding. We have our winner. That was fast.
Fred – you are correct on all counts, including the fact that Somers went unbeaten in the power league — also beating John Jay for the first time in school history that season.
Let’s see if some other folks can help you out with the final score of that game and some more details. I will add this, with the win, Somers, which started varsity lax in 1996, became the fastest program to ever beat Yorktown — six years. While that game was not one of our games of the week on Cablevision, we did shoot highlights for our weekly “Sports Scene” show, and I just checked them out to refresh my memory, so I can fill in those details if others can’t.

  4. syracuse says:

The way I see this game is as follows:

The only chance Somers has is if Petre steps up huge. Because you get a scenario where both Marasco and Petre have a bunch of goals apiece then you could possibly hang with Yorktown in a shootout.

Somers’ defense, though good, is not dominant. It’s not better than St. Anthony’s. It does not have players who can consistently put the ball on the ground to give the Tuskers chances to gain and maintain possession. Eddie Schurr will be a stud, but he isn’t one yet. They don’t have anyone who can match up with either Interlicchio or Ranagan …

And though some people say Yorktown’s offensive depth is lacking, I don’t think Somers has anywhere near enough to exploit that, if you do, indeed, buy into the theory that After KI and The Beast Yorktown has little else.

We don’t really know what Somers is, save to say they have some skilled offensive players. I don’t remember seeing a middie who stood out when I saw them, though Pfiffner pumped home a few.

Marasco will get his points, for sure. And if Petre does score a bunch of goals it will mean Marasco is having a legendary game, because Petre is a finisher and Marasco is a great passer. And we already know Jo-Jo is godo for 3 or 4 goals every game, regardless of the opponent. Yes, Yorktown included.

But Yorktown, at home, under the lights at The Murph, may be just too much. I’m sticking with Town, 14-7.

And I like Somers, too. Let us not forget I picked them to win Class B back in mid-March, a decision that was met with some snickering. I could still be wrong, but they’ve been mighty impressive so far.

  5. Joe Lombardi says:

    ‘Cuse –

Having seen St. Anthony’s and Somers, I would say the Tuskers’ defense could very well be better than the Friars. St. A’s lost two starters from its close unit and its starting goalie from last year. Somers has all but one starter back — albeit a big loss in Chris Coppolecchia, who now starts for Quinnipiac.

Somers does have one advantage over Yorktown. Athleticism. If Matt Deiana, Erik Pfiffner and Anthony Lombardo can win the majority of the faceoffs, the Tuskers could be in it throughout.

You mentioned Petre and obviously he’s a big factor. Just as important will be guys like Erik Pfiffner, the Tuskers’ other D-I recruit (Colgate), as well as Deiana, Dylan Haas, Rob Lombardo, Anthony Lombardo, Erik Zmuidins, John Bello, Colin Tullgren. All these guys are also football standouts. In lacrosse today, athletic teams that play hard, get ground balls and play a physical style are tough matchups even for the best of teams, including Yorktown.

Honestly, that’s the main reason Somers has enjoyed the success it has against Yorktown. I think back to that 2002 game, and Somers had a big edge in athleticism, including guys like Jack Garland, an all-state football player who has never played lax prior to that season. But he made a big impact in that game as a d-middie.

Since 2002, Yorktown has probably had more skilled lax players than Somers. Somers has had better athletes. And the Tuskers are now trying for their third win in four years against the ‘Huskers.

Is it possible Yorktown wins 14-7? Sure. But last year, many (probably yourself included) thought it would be even more one-sided. It wound up being a 12-10 game.

Bottom line: Somers-Yorktown. Expect the unexpected.

  6. syracuse says:

Don’t see it. I just wasn’t blown away by Somers. Maybe that’s because the Tuskers were playing a Hen Hud team that’s clearly got a lot of work ahead of itself.

Considering how good Yorktown’s D is, can you see Somers’ D matching?

I can’t. Even if the Yorktown and Somers offenses are washes — and I’m being generous by offering that olive branch — Yorktown’s defense and goaltending is vastly superior.

Also, I love all this talk of Somers’ athletes. What? No Yorktown football players play lacrosse? Yorktown has just as many athletes. That rationale is old and I don’t buy it.

You want to tell me Somers can win because Marasco will score 15 goals and Pfiffner and others will win 100 percent of the faceoffs, I’d be more inclined to agree with you on that than I would this notion that the Somers lacorsse team is made up of a bunch of iron man triathletes and nobody else can compete with them from a fitness standpoint.

The term “athletes” is so overrated in my book, it’s scary, especially at the high school level. What wins games, especially big ones is execution and coaching.

  7. Joe Lombardi says:

    ‘Cuse –

Newsflash: Lax has become a game of athleticism. Just about every college coach I talk to tells me they recruit athletes first, lax players second. Granted, the real great ones are both athletes and great lax players. But take a look at the Section 1 players who have gotten scholarships to play in college the last few years. They all have size and athleticism more than overwhelming lax skills. That’s just a fact.

And the percentage of Yorktown lax players who play football is dramatically lower than Somers. It’s been that way since Somers first beat Yorktown in ’02. That’s also a fact.

I’m a little confused about the question as to how Somers’ D matches up with Yorktown’s D. How Somers’ D matches up with Yorktown’s offense and how Yorktown’s D matches up with Somers’ offense is the question.

Your statement that Somers would need JoJo Marasco to score 15 goals to win is also non-sensical to me. I believe if Somers is to beat Yorktown, the scoring would have to be balanced and other players would need to contribute as much — or almost as much — as him.

Also, I agree 100 percent that execution and coaching are big factors. That’s obvious. But the teams with the best players win — and in lax, increasingly, that’s the team with the best athletes.

As UVa coach Dom Starsia said, “I have a team of 22 Division I-AA football players.” (The last time I checked, the Cavaliers were ranked No. 1.)

The game has changed, my friend. I think for the better.

  8. syracuse says:

I’m not saying Marasco has to score 15 goals for Somers to win. I’m saying I’d buy that reasoning before I’d buy the fact that Somers is far and away more athletic than Yorktown.

If indeed that’s the main reason why the Tuskers have had the success they have had against Town dating to 2002, then what has happened to them when they take on Rye when it matters? Or why haven’t the Tuskers harnassed this athletic prowess into more runs deeper into the state tournament? Sure, Rye has a ton of football players, too, but Rye wins because Rye executes better than Somers does, or has more often in the past.

I’m sure the game is changing. I don’t doubt it. But I think the idea of the athlete being the driving reason why teams win or lose is overblown because everybody has them. At the end of the day, I still believe good old fashioned Xs and Os, execution and overall skill is more important.

I could be proven wrong and again, the last thing I want to do is appear to not think highly of Somers. It’s obvious from what I’ve written for going on three weeks now reflects that I think Somers is in fact very good, but we know the single greatest reason why they are good is because they have the best player on God’s green earth running, passing and shooting circles around the competition. Truth be told, without that guy they’d probably be just another team.

Maybe Somers’ athleticism will be the main reason why they exceed expectations this season, but at the end of the day it helps that they have great shooters, passers and smarts. They can definitely be very good with just the latter because they will outskill the opposition for the most part. But just being athletic will not get them over the hump when it really matters.

  9. THE CROP says:

    Yorktown 13 Somers 5
I swear im not here just to talk up yorktown lax and the student section.

i love the talk about how yorktown is only KI and Ranagan, and no one else on offense, look for Tom Casey and Schuldt to put up numbers tomorrow night, pappas knows how to get open just couldnt finish against st. A’s. so he’ll get some points to..Joe’s right about the athlete’s, im sure college coaches today would love to have a great athlete with decent skills and try to turn them into a project and develope them..altho i dont think yorktown is outmatched athleticly(spelling? its spring break) in this game

In the end somers gives yorktown a run for their money through the first half, then ranagan and casey just get angry, ki puts on a clinic, and the best D in the state locks it down. Under the lights at the Murph Turf and the rowdiest fan section in westchester, The Crop, in effect…its a ytown W.

7-2 yorktown at the half…………13-5 final

    scoring: Kev- 5 , Ranagan-3, Casey-3, Shuldt-1, Pappas-1.

  10. JKru99 says:

I was on the 02 Somers team and Joe is 1000% right. We won becuz we were more athletic. We got to the ground balls and caused turnovers. Town had the McElduffs and some sick players but we had more athletes. I’ve been back to three Town-Somers games since and it’s been the same story. Joe hit it on the head.

  11. renmore says:

    Rye 8, Jay 6

Jay is just too young this year.

    Town 11, Somers 8

    Pac 12, Hen Hud 5

  12. Saulax says:

Joe, I agree Massapequa has played a tougher schedule so far and has to be a slight favorite over Plainedge. I’ll say 8-5.

  13. pacfan says:

Somers is not just Jojo, they have a solid goalie in Longo and Deiana is probably the fastest player in section 1. It’s gonna come down to how well Somers can cover Ranagan because we all know KI is gonna score. I dont think they have anyone who could do it.

    Town 14 Somers 7

  14. Taz says:

Wow – Cuse and I are agreeing today! 😉

I do agree with Joe that athleticism has become a much bigger issue in lacrosse, especially in college. But I think that athleticism hass much more impact at certain positions than at others – for example midfield (Kevin Drew might be the best freshman example of this in the country) and defense as opposed to attack and goaltending. There is a great ranging interview from some years ago with Dom Starsia (not sure if it’s the same interview Joe alluded to) where he talked about his recruiting philosophies – he basically said he tried to get the best attackmen and goalies that were out there, and then filled in the midfield and defense with great athletes. Something to the effect of you can win a championship with a great attack and efficient midfield, but not vice versa.

On a seperate note, your coverage is dwarfing that of LI’s own newspaper!

  15. Taz says:

PS – And I think 14-5 Manhasset over ‘Wogue is too many. Haven’t seen ‘Wogue this year but they are always a very physical athletic team with a coach who won the Empires in ’07.

  16. Towny'91 says:

    Ytown-14 Somers-5

Yorktown’s offense couldnt be stopped by St. Anthony’s, sure aint gunna be stopped by Somers…If Interlicchio is shut off, Casey and Leiberman are going to have to really step up….I just dont see anyone on that Somers team who can come close to stopping Ranagan and Interlicchio

Mikey B. comes up with 14 saves while the D-Unit LOCKS IT DOWN!!

  17. slacrosse says:

Jo great and Somers does have other good players but Town has more kids at more positions that are MOST importantly, skilled and elite lacrosse players (who also are multi-sport athletes). I just dont see Somers “bulling their way” or using extra athletic ability to outdo Town on ground balls, etc, etc–unless the Town kids dont play up to their ability.

Again no insult to Somers but Town is one of THE elite teams in the country. I expect that they’ll show that convincingly tonite!

    Good luck to both teams.

  18. John FANagan & Kevin Intermaniac says:

Somers vs. Yorktown is going to be wild, but I just don’t see the Tuskers winning it.

THE CROP is going to get wild considering we lost to Somers in football, and yet they still won’t let us hear the end of it, even though we both made the section semis. BUT this is not a game of bitterness because the Huskers will win this game, hands down. This may be the only sport where the Crop will not carry the Huskers to emotional victories, because they will rely on their talent. However, don’t bet on the Crop not showing up because the Crop is in full effect.I’d say its the greenhouse effect, but I guess it’s just the ecosystem

    Yorktown wins, 12-6

    JoJo puts in 4.

    KI 5, Ranagan 3, TCase 2, Schuldt 1, Remlax 1

Mikey B posts 11 saves, playing in the backyard with his good buddy JOJO pays off. Defense is the story, as it will be all year.

  19. Ty Schuld Cult says:

On a sidenote, KI is unstoppable.
    Ranagan is a tank.
    TCase is a bulldozer.

get out the caution tape b/c there is no stopping the huskers on charlie’s carpet under the lights

  20. Schurr-E-Nuff says:

What everyone is forgetting is the main reason Somers has hung with the more talented Town teams is the zone that they ran. Somers is now strictly man to man, and will have no one that can matchup with that offense ( KI, Ranagan, Casey etc ) . Coaching may be apart of a close start, and if so Somers is at a HUGE disadvantage tonight.

    Yorktown-16
    Somers-5

  21. paclaxer says:

i wouldnt look into the hen hud game too much for somers. they have some real good middies and we’ll show it tonight. Somers 11 Yorktown 9

  22. Towny'91 says:

Joe, KI played a lot of crease his freshman and soph year just bc he was playing with more experienced players (not to mention he was like 14 yrs old playing against the best teams in the country lol)
He is certainly not a crease attackman anymore as most of his goals this year have been from dodging, so Im gonna have to disagree with you on that one..

  23. MurphsLateNight says:

Yea Joe Im gonna have to agree with Towny on this one….KI is certainly not a crease attackman..a crease attackman is a guy who never leaves the crease for the most part….If you watch Interlicchio, he is usually at the top of the box demanding the ball, brings it behind, sets up the offense and dodges his way to the hoop…He has certainly turned into one of the better dodgers in the state, if not country….ANYWAY, Ytown 17 Somers 7……CANT STOP RANAGAN BETWEEN THE LINES!!!!!!! (plus, ytown doesnt lose on Murphs yard 😉

  24. syracuse says:

I love how the members of THE CROP speak of themselves in the third person like THE ROCK.

Seriously, this is what we need. More fan clubs within schools. Like Mahopac should form a group called “The Little Scalps,” and Somers kids should all dress up like baby elephants and do circus tricks in the stands. The John Jay kids could challenge the Mahopac kids to a good old fashioned game of lacrosse, played with wooden sticks on fields with no boundaries.

We could build a makeshift zoo for all the Lions, Tigers and Bears out there, and could some kind of cage for all you guys with wings.

Raiders and Rebels should just don eye patches, swords and peg legs and do whatever they want.

Garnets? Sorry guys. You’re on your own.

  25. Third Party Observer says:

paclaxer, i thought you were from mahopac?

why are you referring to the somers midfield as we?

  26. MurphsLateNight says:

Joe, you know best, so in your own opinion, what do you think the Tuskers need to do tonight defensively to keep this close?
Containing the Hopkins duo has been no easy task these days, especially at home…

  27. Fred says:

Joe brings up a great point about Athleticism. I agree with Joe that when Somers has beaten Town it was because they had more athletes on the field. I wouldn’t say that those Somers teams had more skilled lacrosse players. Those Somers teams had kids that were all-state at sports other than lacrosse, and in crunch time that advantage showed. It might be bc Somers is a smaller school and kids are more apt to play more than 1 sport but I can’t recall any good Town lax player that was all-state or at least well known around Section 1 for anything other than lacrosse. I might be wrong about that, but its off the top of my head.

I will admit that the elite teams in high school lacrosse have a mix of great lax skills and athleticism, but teams that are stacked with athletes and are well coached can at least give those teams fits. I think that’s that main reason why Rye has developed into such a good program. Its no coincidence that they’ve been winning state football titles during the same period that their lax program has taken off. Same with Iona Prep whose athletic programs overall has made great strides during the same period their lax team had become relevant. If lacrosse had been ingrained into the cultures of towns like Somers and Rye (who consistently produce top notch multi-sport athletes) for as long as it has been in Yorktown I think you would more clearly see the advantages overall athletes have over just great skilled lax players. Lets remember that Somers has only had a program since 1996 and they’ve been very successful. This success isn’t bc they produced good lax players but bc they produced good athletes.

With all that said I think Town takes this one tonight. They have that mix of great lax players and solid athletes. I really think it’s their year. I do hope it’s at least a good game though. I am loving this rivalry.

  28. THE CROP says:

Gameday people, along with my goals prediction, and halftime score i got Mikey B down for 15 saves.

    Some superlatives:
Most likely to run someone over while they have possesion of the ball- Ranagan
Most likely to run someone over while the other team has possesion-Ranagan
    Biggest Bully- Tom Casey
Best celebration after a goal- Ty Schuldt
Most likely to turn around to The Crop and give them a wave after we chant their name- Joe lombardi and Issac Cass.

I heard its shorts and t-shirt casual tonight? see you there

love always, joey lomb’s yorktown correspondent.

  29. Ty Schuldt Cult says:

Most likely to go buckwild after Ytown rips Gs: The Crop

  30. Joe Lombardi says:

THE CROP – Great stuff. You are quickly becoming MVP of this board, my man. You combine good info with an entertaining spin – very difficult to do. Keep ’em coming big dog.

Nice list BTW. Wonder where Somers’ 12th Man is hiding? We need a list from them too.

FYI folks – the Top 25 will be live at high noon.

  31. 4-0 ! says:

The Crop might just be the best fan section in the country….Joe we should have a poll for that!!!!! Go Town! Go Crop! Have fun somers 😉

  32. Joe Lombardi says:

    Murphs –

After all the anticipation and analysis, I believe the game tonight will come down to two things: faceoffs and ground balls.

As I said, Ytown is most effectively on offense when it wins faceoffs and gets its deadly fastbreak going. If that happens tonight, it could be a rout.

Somers, though, has some talented athletes (here I go again) on faceoffs. Matt Deiana was just rated the No. 1 running back in NYS by espn.com. Erik Pfiffner is the Tuskers’ starting fullback who will be playing lax at Colgate. Anthony Lombardo is contending to start at QB for Somers next year. If this trio can neutralize the ‘Huskers in the X, then Somers has a chance to stay in it.

Ground balls will also be vital for the same reason — they determine who gets possession. Ditto for clears.

There are some real interesting matchups and there will be some great talent on the field, but really, that’s how I see it.

Once again, my pick is Ytown 12, Somers 7.

Just an FYI – I will be heading off to JJ for the Rye-JJ game. You can look for updates in the body of this post. Game-time is 2.

  33. syracuse says:

The CROP is like the talent, agent and attorney all rolled into one. He doesn’t need a PR guy either. …

    Fred,

There have been dozens upon dozens of Yorktown football players who were also very good lacrosse players. Some may pre-date you …

All this talk about athleticism got me thinking last night, what about all the kids — the hundreds upon hundreds — who have played hockey — every bit the physical and athletic a sport as football I might add — at schools like Suffern, Mamaroneck and the Clarkstowns?

What are those schools’ excuses then for not beating Yorktown three times since 2002?

Wait for it … ah yes … skills, coaching, tradition.

  34. Joe Lombardi says:

Easy answer to that one, ‘Cuse.

Hockey players usually are the guys with the great stick skills. Football players are the guys who usually play midfield/defense, where you take faceoffs and win ground balls. In other words, where the game is won or lost.

  35. Fred says:

    Syracuse,

Schools like Suffern, Mamroneck and Clarkstown do not have reputable athletic programs overall. Yes, they maybe good at hockey, but is that even a school sponosered sport? Also, there are far less hockey teams in section 1 than lacrosse teams so you don’t need to be the most talented hockey player to be well regarded in this area.

Also, I will not deny that Yorktown has produced some great football/lax players but that was back in the 1990’s. Kids lilke Loedwick and Cayone come to mind. I can’t think of anyone besides them and that was back in the early 1990’s.

  36. Joe Lombardi says:

We’ve already started our scoring updates, gang. We have a partial from the Byram Hills-Bronxville game in the main body of this post.

    Be sure to check back for Rye-JJ (2 p.m.) and Somers-Yorktown (7 p.m.) updates.

  37. Joe Lombardi says:

    Fred –

Don’t forget about Roy C., Chris Grande and the D’Andraia boys.

  38. casual observer says:

    joe,
an early line on the rye IP game or you gonna wait till after thier JJ game?

  39. Joe Lombardi says:

    CO –

Let’s see if my mind changes after the Rye-JJ game. Right now, I like Iona, say 8-5.

  40. LAX 17 says:

    Joe
Pac 17- 10 over Hen Hud. Brando 7 goals 2 assists for Pac has 16 goals in first 3 games Pac changed D in 4th quarter.

  41. LAX says:

JJ beating Rye 8-4 at the half, sophomore midfielder Forrest Walter and senior attackman Drew Beck have 3 goals each so far. I’m not at the game but it’s higher scoring than I expected.

  42. BigBadBear says:

    b’ville vs. BH update?

  43. FeLax says:

Having watched the Yorktown Defensive Units players participate in multiple sports successfully it’s hard to imagine Somers Offense having better athleticism than Towns D. Didn’t Brunelle, Cabrielle, Fox and Fennessey all play football, basketball and lax together? In football some of them they played offense and defense, got league, section, etc. awards. In one of the players case, I think Brunelle, he’s played multiple positions within football as diverse as wide receiver, defensive end and quarterback. I could go on for other teammates, but this should speak to Towns Defenses’ Athleticism vs. Somers Offenses’ Athleticism. Towns great football and lax players go back to the early 80’s doesn’t it ? It should be an interesting matchup none the less. I don’t see it being too close and predict 13-4 Town D.

  44. LAX says:

Joe, it’s not Forrest Walker it’s Forrest Walter.

  45. Doid23 says:

    Town 14 Somers 8

  46. LAX FB FAN says:

Joe, Not to turn this into a football discussion. But I can’t find ESPN football rankings for NY anywhere. All I found is Deiana is one of six kids in NY who had his film evaluated. He just happens to be the only RB

  47. Sect1Lax says:

BigBear – I was just reading about the Byram-!ronxille game and Pac-Hen Hud. Scroll up its in this post along with Jay-Rye.

  48. yopac says:

I think the Town Somers game will be a bit more low scoring then people may think…

    Ill take ..
    Yorktown-9
    Somers-5

  49. syracuse says:

    Guys,

Updates on Somers-Yorktown will be coming fast and furious. Joe is at Charlie Murphy Field. I will be posting scores as I get them in the body copy of this post. Stay tuned …

  50. BigBadBear says:

saw it after I posted (and ‘cuse pinged Jordan)…b’ville doesn’t get much respect, but they are always solid..and is it too soon to say we have a horse race in C? Should PV now be considered the favorite?

  51. letsgooo says:

    Where are the updates!!???

  52. syracuse says:

Guys, again. Pay attention for your own good. Updates are in the body copy of this post. Yorktown leads 6-3 with 5 to play in second. KI has 4 goals, Marasco has 1.

  53. town44 says:

Joe great job with updates, thanks a lot!!!!

  54. syracuse says:

Yorktown up 6-4 at half … KI has four goals … Marasco has 2 … Somers so far has stuck with a zone … Lots of good, hard hits … Place is packed …

  55. coming says:

How the goalies look? hows mike doing

  56. syracuse says:

It’s 8-6 Town with 5 to go in third. KI now has 6. Updates o’plenty in the body copy.

  57. syracuse says:

Guys, shocker on Long Island: Lindenhurst 8, Ward Melville 5; West Islip gets all it can handle from Floyd before winning 12-8. … I don’t have a clue what Joe is doing right now. Have not heard from him …

  58. town44 says:

Kevin Interlicchio finished with 7goals and 2 assists! He truly cannot be stopped!!!! Go TOWN!!!!

  59. syracuse says:

    Hey Guys,

Joe will be back soon and will write up recaps and analysis on both Rye-JJ and Somers-Town. So please stick around …

I just added about a million regional scores to this post. Some real interesting results. Please check it out (just below Yorktown-Somers updates) …

    Thanks.

    ‘CUSE

  60. syracuse says:

Try this one on for size: Comeswogue 11, Manhasset 10 (OT)

  61. NYSlax says:

JOE LOMBARDI : Question of the year so far!!

True or False, Kevin Interlicchio (junior attackman-Yorktown (hopkins)) is the most dangerous offensive threat in NYS…..

26 goals in 4 games, not to mention a few assists to go along with that…

  62. LAX says:

Is that the same Comeswogue team that JJ beat 16-4 last year??? Some very surprising scores, and good job to all teams who competed today. JJ-Rye wasn’t a 1-0 game in 6 OTs huh cuse? 8 goals in the first quarter is not what I was expecting, neither was 5 goals from Forrest Walter which is great for the kid. Thankyou Syracuse and Joe this site is awesome and nice job with all the updates.

College action: Chris Daniello scores a hat trick to lead Syracuse over Cornell 15-10, Cornell was ranked 3rd on the IL poll with Syracuse 5th. Princeton, 2nd in the poll, squeezes past Pennsylvania 10-9.

Lastly, Interlicchio is unstoppable, he’s got to be one of the best finishers in the country. Game plan for future opponents: attempt to stop him.

  63. syracuse says:

Where’s The CROP. I miss them or him or her …

  64. Doid23 says:

I think The Crop is an it, not a him or her. Kind of like the smoke monster on LOST.

Yup, same Comsewogue team. To tell you how crazy a year last year was, they beat Jay 16-4, then lost to Rocky Point in the playoffs (9-2 or something like that), who then pulled out a 1 goal win vs. Jay in the semis. Just goes to show you that teams evolve (or devolve) during a season, and you can’t judge a team by one game. Which is why national rankings are crazy. But that’s another topic…

  65. syracuse says:

Actually, Jay beat Comeswogue 16-4 … but I think I know what you’re driving at …

  66. Taz says:

See, I TOLD Joe his 14-5 Manhasset prediction was off base! 😉

‘Wogue very athletic and fast. Well coached. Manhasset was the Connor English show (5 & 1 I think against a zone similar to the one JJ often plays). Neither team ever up by more than 2. Manhasset missing their LSM and 1 close pole. ‘Wogue should definitely be in the running for Suffolk B this year IMO.

  67. Doid23 says:

Thinking faster than I type, I meant Jay over Wogue. And the Wogue-RP score was 7-2, not 9-2. But, my point was right. 1 out of 3 ain’t bad.

Man, I saw KI play a few times last year, but he’s just blowing up. I wish I could see him this year, and next year, well, that’s going to be downright scary.

  68. THE CROP says:

THE CROP has arrived, and i know i’ve been missed, i’m a him but i speak on behalf of the whole crop.

Just got back from a big win celebration and of course some players are alittle ticked off they did’nt get in one of the “superlatives” i posted before..i guess 26 goals through 4 games isnt enough for kev. Tom is really enjoying “Biggest Bully”, but he also now has “Most rediculous bandana”, Ty had another great excited celebration tonight, so he really has that title.

The crop was active, although not at its best at all, but got up for the second half and booed greatly when jojo touched the ball. Supposedly the ref’s loved our chants of the good old ” LEFT, RIGHT, LEFT ,RIGHT”, when somers got a penalty and they were walking off the field… its always good to scream what foot their stepping with and then scream “take a knee” when they get to the box…so in the end, when you makes the ref’s laugh its a good day.

Issac cass gave us the good wave after chanting his name..couldnt get everyone up to scream joe lombardi, but if it makes you feel better joe, i lost my voice screaming your name, along with a few others..great jacket by the way, i wish we were all as smart as you and wore a jacket.

Kev and Ranagan said they made some shoutouts to the crop to the newspaper for tomorrow, specifically my name(slight typo kev says) and my partner in crime…but i hope we can still refer to me as THE CROP.

Cody hanlon put on good licking on someone tonight, unfortunatly it was Ryan Tirelli of the same team…the crop was almost ready to chant “Hows the ground taste?”, until we figured out Tirelli was on the ground.

See you tomorrow morning, i hear the giants are closing in on Braylon Edwards for a 1st and 5th rounder…good night.

  69. […] What a day. (You can check out our updates on all those results by  clicking here.) […]

  70. syracuse says:

    CROP …

Bro, c’mon now. I know Joe is the rock star, the guy with the blinding bling around his neck and the fancy souped up Civic, but how about some “‘CUSE” chants? What’s a brother got to do to get paid in this world?

I think Joe should do a video interview with members of the CROP, just like what the YES Network does with the Bleecher Creatures. …

Maybe if I dress up like the Orangeman mascot for the Melville game I’ll get some love …

  71. THE CROP says:

CUSE….my man, guys like Issac and Joe have their “unique-ness”…Issac has his blue little backpack, and his sweet lumberjack beard ( I’m trying to grow it out) thats how you know its him from a distance. Joe’s black leather jacket and just his swagger jottin down some notes at the game by box make him noticeable. You need your own thing, to then be chanted by THE CROP…Maybe its the entire orangeman mascot costume (hilarious costume, saw it while i watched the 6 OT game at MSG), maybe its a fishing hat, maybe its a camera with a big light bulb on it..i dont know, but until i see it…to be quite honest….we dont know who you are. lol

I think its imperative that Joe gets an interview with some of the main members of the crop, and pair them up with some players on the team for a “super interview”

Look for THE CROP to be mentioned in the news tomorrow.

  72. Joe Lombardi says:

Tax – Good call on Manhasset – no doubt. You definitely deserve props for that. What did you know that I didn’t?

  73. Joe Lombardi says:

CROP – So you liked the leather jacket, huh? Thanks. It has a fur lining and everything. I was at two games in the brutal cold, so it’s a good thing I brought it.
BTW – I did hear the chant and gave you guys a wave and all.
Good analysis of the game. I have to give Cody credit for another hit. Rob Lombardo caught him with his head down, but he lived to tell about it. The whole defense — Fennessy, Brunelle, Fox, Cody, Mike B. — came up big in the last quarter and a half especially when the outcome was hanging in the balance.

    ‘Cuse –
I definitely see a video interview with the CROP down the line. If they are this loud in the bitter cold, I can just imagine when the weather warms up.

BTW – I don’t drive a Civic. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

  74. THE CROP says:

speaking of cody, Give credit to Cody’s father and Jared Zapakin’s father. During half time they came over to me and my buddy and just ripped us apart about how we have to get loud, i tried explaining myself to them but they gave me no chance to respond and just told us to get loud. I was sort of scared, i almost got confused as to who was the 18 year old in the conversation and who was the dad’s.

The only thing missing from this game was rain or snow

on a more serious note our defense is amazing and dont forget to give credit to bretto (#14, going to Wesleyan for lacrosse), and if theres ever a short stick on Ty..that spells trouble for the other team.

kevins 26 goals might be more than my all goals from the 4th grade til freshmen year…how ever impressive you may think that stat is. i dont know, but i hope im getitng my point across.

  75. GreenWhite says:

Yo Cuse cmon now Joe is THE MAN. I mean the PA guy was talking him and this blog up even.

  76. Joe Lombardi says:

    GreenWhite –
That PA announcement by Kevin Van Meter did catch me a little off guard.

    CROP –
Yes. You definitely got your point across … 26 goals in four games – who does that?

BTW – Kevin did mention both CROP masterminds — Matt Ciccotto and Nick Ellsworth — in his post-game conference with the media.

  77. Taz says:

Joe – All I knew is that I watch a LOT of LI lacrosse. ‘Wogue is a tough physical disciplined team year in and year out. Manhasset has a lot of “potential” but with the exception of English, no one else has consistently stepped up last year or so far this year.

  78. Joe Lombardi says:

    Taz –

Well, you obviously know your stuff. Check out the picks for today’s game. I picked a bunch of LI games — and let me know what you think.

    Here’s that link:

    http://laxlessons.com/blog/2009/04/tuesdays-top-5score-updates/

  79. Taz says:

Some interesting games. I think Mt. Sinai vs SWR and RP vs. Smithtown West are basically pick ems – so I’ll go with your picks. But I’ll take WM to rebound vs GC – GC hasn’t really played anyone for that record so far.

  80. THE CROP says:

Joe, some of my predictions were near right with the goals and such

but i was very right about the superlative ” Most likely to run someone over while having possesion of the ball” – John Ranagan

check out 2:45 on this video
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kDywI_fvsfw&eurl=http%3A%2F%2Ftheblogcabin%2Ecom%2Fhomebase%2Fblog%2F2009%2F04%2F08%2Fboys%2Dlacrosse%2Dyorktown%2Dvs%2Dsomers%2Dvideo%2Dhighlights%2F&feature=player_embedded

i knew i predicted that right from the start.

  81. Big Red says:

did anyone see daniello’s rusty gate check on the ride…
    it was wild

  82. syracuse says:

    CROP, GreenWhite:

Obviously you can’t expect a guy like me to reinvent the wheel, so if Joe is the standard-bearer by which all journalists and all-around lax afficiandos try to model, I guess I’ll have to find my niche with another rabid fan base. It would have been nice to earn the adoration from all the stalks of corn sprouting up around Murph’s Turf, but I guess this world isn’t big enough for two titans.

As for Isaac Cass, I’ve spoken to him before and he seems like a very cool due and has a general love for what he does, not to mention the fact that he does it well and the NCN is basically the best local weekly paper in the state. I credit a lot of that to the original legend, Ramonstradamus. In case you don’t know who he is, I’d ask around. Ramonstradamus and Joe (who needs a better nickname by the way) are local legends whose personas have far outgrown their actual abilities … LOL.

So I guess I’ll take my bag of balls and cracked excalibur head held together by duct tape from the late 1980s and 1990s college “glory” years and move on.

Maybe I’ll try out for Briarcliff. Bears fans seem to have a general affinity for talent when they read it. Plus, I’m now tight with Al Meola and Timmy Schurr. “Laser” Lew at Somers and I are getting pretty tight as well.

Who knows? Maybe even John Jay could use a second-string water boy, though I must admit I’m more likely to get shot at over there than applauded by those wild fans.

Maybe, ultimately, I can latch on with an FCIAC or Long Island team.

Either way, the orangeman will emerge somewhere at some point. And when he does it will be a crying shame THE CROP won’t be there to pay homage.

    ‘CUSE

  83. BigBadBear says:

    ‘Cuse:

I have the orange and blue sweatshirt all ready for you….but I hear you like to shoot more than run, you are going to have a tough time with Meola amd Shurr…

  84. syracuse says:

    BBB,

Now that’s funny. Believe me when I say I know all about Timmy’s practices. I wear a helmet when I just talk to him on the street.

And Big Al was a hockey stud so I tread lightly whenever I’m within a quarter mile of him.

Hopefully I can get out to a Briarcliff game sooner rather than later and check out the fanbase. I hope there is some color and novelty to their act because The CROP has set the bar so high.

But I do appreciate the invite. Let’s see what we can do.

P.S. … Joe is right. He doesn’t drive a Civic.

He drives a purple and white Humvee.

  85. BigBadBear says:

    ‘Cuse:

not sure if we are up to the Crop’s standards, but if you go to one game…has to be p’ville…schedule has some conflicts in it, looks to be 4/29….I’ll be easy to spot

  86. THE CROP says:

Cuse, i am feeling terrible about this…next big game you are invited right into THE CROP. I’m talking about the first person over the age of 25 in THE CROP..This is a cultural changing event. You can be mentioned in the same sentence as Ghandi, Jackie Robinson, MLK, Neil Armstrong, etc. as to venture where noone has ventured before. Or you can atleast stand right in front of THE CROP, my dad has the corner on lock down though, hes always right there.

by the way, im not talking about the freshmen rows up front..I’m talking about the premium top row seats..If this were the new yankee stadium, the seats im talking about would go for about 5 thousand dollars a game.

I see big things for us cuse, i could use a public relations guy. Things are getting big for THE CROP, paparazzi are following everywhere, there trying to get embaressing pictures on the internet..i cant do it alone.

  87. syracuse says:

    CROP,

I know the feeling my friend. I often can’t leave the barbershop in town (the Italian guys next to A&P) without flashbulbs going off and reporters sreaming questions like:

“Joe, who’s going to win John Jay-Somers?”

“Joe, is Interlicchio indeed better than Marasco?”

“Joe, any chance anyone other than Rye wins Class C this year?”

“Joe, is there any truth to the rumor that you once moonlighted as the University of Dayton mascot?”

“Joe, care to comment on why you think Joba made fun of Yogi or who’s better Britney or Miley?”

“Joe, why a purple and white humvee? Don’t you understand that in today’s day and age of environmental responsibility driving a monster truck that gets 3 mpg is not very responsbile? Not to mention the colors of the car, showing an allegiance to a team that is clearly in a rebuilding stage?”

“Joe, your comments on athleticism being the driving force behind why teams have beaten Yorktown have come under fire a bit lately. Care to comment?”

And it just goes on and on. I just try my best to act and respond in the same professional manner as the real Joe would, not that I take offense to being mistaken for Joe. I mean, he is after all, Joe. Think about it: Marasco had to literally change his first name because he couldn’t compete with all the Joe fan clubs that exist in Section 1. And now that Joe has hired an all-star PR firm he’ll soon be a household name on Long Island and beyond Fairfield County.

No, I just respond as Joe would.

“I have no comment on any of these allegations, but encourage all of you to check out LaxLessons.com. We have the greatest regional lacrosse web site in the land, with a standout cast of journalists and web experts. I do parties and bar mitzvahs as well.”

So if THE CROP doesn’t mind me being mistaken for Joe, I have no problem showing up and doing my part to further the legend.

But to be fair, if someone wants to showcase the character that is ‘CUSE, I’m down with that as well.

Joe is a tough act to follow. I’ll be first to admit it, but my job is to be is foil.

And to continue to exploit the wicked and honor the immortal.

    Boy do I love lacrosse.

  88. Joe Lombardi says:

Wow – check this out. ‘Cuse is now staging imaginary conversations with imaginary people and me — or him. I’m not sure which. In any case, very entertaining stuff. We do need to get you out of the office and to a game again ASAP. How does Saturday at noon sound?

Oh yeah – If I drive a purple and white humvee, then a green and white Saturn is your vehicle of choice. Haha. Also — and you should know this — there is no such thing as Orangemen any more. It’s just the Orange. So the mascot is not Orangeman. Actually, I don’t know what it is. Looks like a little orange fuzz ball to me.

That was a very magnanimous gesture by the Crop I should add. If it ever happens that would sure be a memorable experience.

BTW – Crop, very nice call on Ranagan. I have to check out that video.

Speaking of videos — and Isaac as you guys were — he put together a nice package of highlights from the game last night:

    http://theblogcabin.com/homebase/blog/2009/04/08/boys-lacrosse-yorktown-vs-somers-video-highlights/

And speaking of the North County News, make sure you guys all get a copy of this week’s issue. There might be a surprise or two in there you’ll be interested in.

  89. syracuse says:

Saturn? Saturn?? Saturn??? (best Jim Mora immitation) …

No man. I’m all about monster trucks too. I’m with you.

Yeah, Saturday at noon sounds good. I just wonder if THE CROP would be up for traveling to Darien for the Manhasset game and rooting for Yorktown even though they don’t play.

That would be a sight, don’t ya think?

  90. Seriously says:

No offense, but this is about the teams not “The Crop” every lacrosse blog is banter about “The Crop”. Personally, I think all the kids coming and cheering is great, what I don’t like is the taunting of other teams. Please don’t say you don’t, I have been to the games and you do. There is a big difference between being a cheering fan and a group of obnoxious mouths. Chanting the other team should go home and when someone is taken off in an ambulance – what sportsmanship is that. Yes, you as a fan are to be held to the same level of civil respect that the players are. Every player on that field is there to play not be taunted and mocked by people in the stands. Yorktown is an awesome team and program don’t let “The Crop” take away from that and have that the ONLY thing people talk about. Have people be impressed that Town gets that many students to come to a game. You are also making the blogs as obnoxious as the games. This is NOT about “The Crop” it is about the players – if you want a blog about you either play the game or go make your own blog.

  91. GreenWhite says:

Are you serious? I don’t like to judge people so I won’t call you what I’m thinking you are. But you definately sound like a grumpy old man. Lighten up. No one said the game was about the Crop. But they are a big part of it just like the parents are and the fans and cheerleaders and everyone else involved. Its not just about the players. But they do deserve the most attention. That’s obvious. As for taunted other teams – that’s not what the Crop is all about. You may have heard one or two comments here or there – when you have a large group of kids that’s gonna happen. You should realize that though. You should also realize the games are supposed to be fun.

  92. seriously says:

    GreenWhite

I agree with you totally the games are supposed to be fun….taunting is not fun – maybe for the one doing it. I think cheering your team on is awesome, I think I said that more than once in my previous statement. What I don’t think is necessary is to tell the other team to go home nor mock someone who is hurt. It was not by just a few. When visitors on the otherside of the field hear the chants loud and clear it is by many. You are right the crop is a big part of the Yorktown game, they are the best team in section 1 – but they are not the only team and their fans should have respect for the other team. By all means, cheer your team, loud and clear, be proud – just don’t beliddle the other team.

  93. syracuse says:

    Seriously,

What you may consider to be belittling other might think is just just good old fashioned fun. Maybe you are more sensitive than most. From what I have seen and heard from “The CROP” they like to get on the opposing team, but it’s done tastefully. The language is always PG-rated.

We live in this politically correct all the time world. I say people who complain about this and complain about that are exactly that — complainers. Now, if you say members of “The CROP” are getting nasty, insulting and using the type of language meant for Yankee Stadium, OK, I’m with you.

But all indications are these are just passionate kids who operate in good taste.

    Lighten up.

  94. seriously says:

Syracuse, you are not serious – taunting a kid on a stretcher???? ok I have been reading the blogs between Joe, you and the crop and obviously you are totally on their side and that is fine. I don’t believe taunting was ever old fashioned fun – I believe the old fashioned was if you don’t have something nice to say don’t say anything. I gave them props for their cheering – you as a person who is supposed to be directing these blogs in constructive ways states that they like to get on the opposing team but it is done tastefully – Syracuse when is taunting tasteful – you should be promoting cheering positively. So telling teams to go home and mocking is okay as long as they don’t use words over PG rating – what is your version of PG. Getting nasty – taunting a kid on a stretcher going to the hospital, chanting to the other team go home, mocking yes I call that distasteful and if you don’t shame on you Syracuse – you should be teaching good sportsmanship on and off the field for player or fan or reporter.

  95. syracuse says:

    Seriously,

First off, I wasn’t at the Somers or St. Anthony’s games. Hence the reason why I asked for specific examples of where they mave have crossed the line. I thank you for getting specific.

Second, I shouldn’t be “promoting” anything. That’s not my job. And it’s especially not my job to comment positively or negatively on something I did not see. Would I call them out on something like that had I been there to see it? You bet.

Third, let’s hear what the members of “The CROP” have to say about this before we publicly persecute them. I think they at least deserve a chance to defend themselves.

Seriously – hey Pops its time to take out your teeth, take your medicine and call it a night.

    Syracuse

I’m sorry I didn’t see where you asked for specific examples, especially when I gave them – saying “We live in this politically correct all the time world. I say people who complain about this and complain about that are exactly that — complainers.” is actually coming across loud and clear that you do back their actions. Maybe you should read some of the other blogs because they do admit to the St. A.’s taunting – I will say that “The Crop” writer admitted to bad form but then it should be stopped. To state you shouldn’t be promoting anything or were not at the games and hence yourr comment “But all indications are these are just passionate kids who operate in good taste” is not factual because it is not first hand.. Yorktown is a great program, as I have said over and over, I just ask that their fans be great fans. When Yorktown goes to other schools do the fans (no matter the size of the crowd) chant go home Yorktown or mock when a player goes down? Al I am asking is for respect for the opposing players and fans – it is called courtesy. I don’t think that is to much to ask

  98. syracuse says:

You know what? I do back their actions … when they behave themselves. I’m not going to crucify a bunch of high school kids because they may have acted in poor taste on a specific day in an isolated incident. Let’s not speak of them like they are Philly fans booing a neck injury to Michael Irvin.

And, frankly, I could care less what you think comes across loud and clear. You are inferring from my statement about “complainers” that I actually support the cheering of major injuries?

Get a clue brother. Don’t take things out of context and fit them into an argument. That’s bush league.

  99. THE CROP says:

    seriously-

to give you an example, (i take stereotyping as one of my elective classes in school).. But lets use my race and what not. When an italian man kills someone (lets say you heard in the news). Do you go back and label all italians as murderers? No.

what happend was that a kid was getting pulled off the field and after everyone clapped to see he was ok. A small % of kids say “nah nah nah nah hey hey hey goodbye”..i dont know where you got “go home” from but that just shows your lack of knowledge about what actually happened. So yes a small group of teenagers said something stupid in public (SHOCKING right!). But what you failed to hear was the top rows telling them to shut up. If 10 kids from a school say something, there not speaking on behalf of everyone. To be honest i’m very good friends with alot of the team, and they love our purpose as much as we love theirs. After the game i see kev and before i give him a congrats for his game which he dominated, hes telling me “you guys were so loud, that was sick, you made the ref laugh”. I know when i played a sport if someone was rooting for me on defense it just made me that more hungry and i knew if i stepped up i not only pleased my coaches, the team, myself, but then the crowd would love it.

Yes we are smart wise a s s, kids so when a team is losing at our home field, the “warm up the bus” chant may be said. It’s said everywhere, go to any place where theres a big student section, i guarantee alot of them are much worse then THE CROP. As for the CROP, were more of a “Drive home Safely” chant at the end of the game to show our concern with the well being of everyone, while still asserting a little arrogant attitude. For every bad taunting chant we say..We say 25 clean ones.

About it being talked about on a blog, whats wrong with it, people are just noticing that yorktown has a great team, complemented with a great creative fan section, that it does deserve, ask any cornhusker parent. It seems like Joe/Cuse, and others i’ve been told for that matter, really enjoyed my info and posts while having a very comical twist to it. I find it very cool that many discussions are about yorktowns great team and now are followed up by their great fan section.

If you thought nothing stupid was going to be said in a group of 100 high school students, you were a little bit crazy. I think you have the mean old neighbor mentality right now. I thank Joe and everyone else for the support, i thought it brought alittle comedy to lacrosse discussion. The talk of the town by players, fans, parents has been the great team (especially K.I.) and then followed by the great work of THE CROP. Just as i say this a yorktown graduate from ’02 just texted me telling me good job tuesday night.

See ‘Cuse, the paparazzi is starting to try and bring me down, thats where my public relations guy comes in….Thanks for letting me speak before jumping to conclusions.

  100. Seriously says:

Crop- not trying to bring you down, If anyone would read what I wrote, I said MORE THAN ONCE that the cheering was awesome, that you had that many fans was awesome, that Yorktown was an awesome team. As I said earlier You should be loud you should be proud but you shouldn’t taunt. But truly I have never been to another game where they told the other team to warm up the bus and for that team to go home. When the games are talked about and information is given that is great but a lot of things that have nothing to do with lacrosse are being babbled. Saying 25 good ones doesn’t really make up for 1 bad one. It is disrespectful. If Yorktown was not the team it is, and schools did that to your team and fans you wouldn’t feel that good either – that is my point nothing more. I hope Yorktown has a great season and I hope The Crop has tons to cheer about – just not tons to taunt…does that make sense?

Syracuse you were the one who came on the attack and then stated you weren’t there so you were defending what you didn’t see and to state I am more sensitive then others – again you were not at those games and you didn’t hear the visiting side.

  101. syracuse says:

The CROP is like the McLovin of the high school lacrosse world. He Forrest Gumps his way through life and ends up ahead of the curve …

  102. THE CROP says:

its not like im saying we always say one chant that taunts and 25 that dont. im just saying for statistical reasoning, that in all, if 26 chants are made..theres maybe 1 taunt (IF THAT, thats the maximum) in the entire game, and its usually a tiny group of kids.

‘Cuse is the man, and what u just said about him not being there so how can he defend us, he went on record as to say “let them respond to the allegations” (or something like that), and also said he would be upset if he knew we were doing such things. Even if he didnt see us, hes hearing good stuff about us from the community so obviously he knows everyone for the most part likes us. He also seems to enjoy some of the posts i made. Just like we always say “You can tell how a man is, just by their comments on a section 1 lacrosse blog.” (now that i think about it, no one says that, i like to think it though.)

i have a shirt that says ” I Hate Haters”, ill make sure to wear it next game.

  103. syracuse says:

I’m done with you … seriously.

  104. Seriously says:

Wow talk about inferring – a hater? not even close….As I have said through out the posts, I think Yorktown is a great team and the fan size is great and the cheering is great – please re-read.

Sorry that a criticism on taunting no matter how many or how little was so upsetting. Maybe you could have looked at it from the other side. But from what I have seen this site only takes everything from the Yorktown side – many other teams out their, may not be at the caliber as Yorktown but they deserve the same respect

  105. Joe Lombardi says:

Seriously – this is frankly turning into a “He doth protest too much” situation it seems.

You made your points. Frankly, I disagree with most of them. Others I do understand — to a certain extent. And I certainly do agree when you say sportsmanship should be displayed by fans as well as players and coaches (to paraphrase you – accurately, I hope).

Crop explained the scenario in the situation you rightfully objected to — and he did so pretty well I might add. I think he said it best when he said when you have a group of 100 teenagers together (for two hours no less), a handful will say/do stupid things. That’s just a fact. I would hope you would understand that. When the handful did, their peers policed their behavior.

    Time to move on.

  106. OldTimer says:

    Thanks Joe

    my sentiments exactly

  107. Felax says:

Has anyone ever heard the saying-brevity is the wit of the soul? How about a little blogging ettiquitte by keeping it quick and accurate like…
    Yorktowns offense…
or by saying at least The Crop didn’t throw lacrosse balls on the field disrupting the game as the Somers fans did…note to The Crop if I were your teacher I’d give you an A+.

  108. slacrosse says:

    Felax,

Yeah I was sitting on Somers side (coincidentally right next to Jo Jo’s folks) when the balls were thrown out on the field. Jo’s dad and others were understandably pissed with calls to stop the nonsense. Nothing like helping to break your own team’s momentum with these senseless interruptions!!

  109. Nutmegger says:

    When does RIdgefield play Somers?

  110. Pizza Delivery says:

    Ridgefield @ Somers Saturday 7:00

Coach D put a quick stop to the ball throwing, which was not a Somers student??
