    Hey guys,

I updated this post above with scores from today. I hope to update it again.

    Syracuse or Joe,

I see a lot of NYC schools here. This is great and shows the games growth.

  3. Lion says:

Is there a city public school league? The MaxPreps site showed a Catholic-City and a PSAL-Ivy (prep schools only).

Do Tottenvile, Columbus, Cardozo, New Dorp, etc. have an organized league?

    Lion,

Good question. I’ve put together the 32 teams that make up what is considered the NYC schools, followed by how they break down by league. If there is enough of a demand for it, we can post records as the season progresses. Clearly, Iona Prep is the best “city” school, but many of these schools, though they are considered as part of the city, are really located in Westchester and Long Island.

Thanks Syracuse, wish it was around when I grew-up (Staten Island). For now I’ll just enjoy watching my kids play.

  6. syracuse says:

There is absolutely no reason why the city schools cannot one day be up there with the publics in the suburbs. All they need is coaching because I know for a fact they have the athletes. Of course, that kind of growth will take years, but with a program like Iona Prep to emulate, it’s just a matter of time before other city schools get the bug.

And once they get it — it’s a proven fact — they’ll never lose it.

  7. Lion says:

It will be interesting to see how it grows on Staten Island. This borough has more a suburban than city landscape and schools like Msgr. Farrell and St. Joseph’s are very sports oriented. Both are big enough schools, Farrell 1,200 boys, St. Joes-Sea smaller because it is co-ed.

Tottenville (public) high school is also interesting. At least 3,000 students, that I recall, in a fairly affluent area.

Still local youth leagues and teams are rare.
