Hope you’ve been enjoying our preseason players to watch tour, folks.

We started in Westchester, Rockland, Putnam and Dutchess before heading out to Long Island.

Today, we wrap things up in Fairfield.

Be sure to weigh in with your thoughts and comments, and please note, this is by no means a definitive list. It’s a starting point for a discussion on the best players in the county. So be sure to add your thoughts on those selected and throw out names of others you think should have been.

Fairfield

• Matt Baker, Ridgefield: The midfielder is equipped with strong stick skills as well as sticktoitiveness. He will play at Colgate.

• Corey Caputo, Darien: The Blue Wave once again have a strong defense and the Hofstra-bound Caputo is one of the mainstays.

• Nikki Dysenchuk, Darien: The status of a knee injury suffered by the Dartmouth-bound Dysenchuk will be key for the Blue Wave. He had five goals in an 11-4 win over New Canaan in last year’s Class M CiAC state title game.

• Kyle Feeney, Greenwich: The Bucknell-bound senior is the county’s leading returning goaltender.

• Tyler Foley, Darien: The dodging midfielder, who has a strong and accurate shot, will be taking be taking his game to Loyola. He was also recruited by Hopkins. The 6-foot, 175-pound Foley, who is also a standout wide receiver for the Blue Wave, not only played in last year’s county championship game despite having a broken thumb, but scored three goals.

• Matt Gorski, Darien: Another standout defender for the Blue Wave, Gorski is bound for Ohio State.

• Jared Horowitz, Greenwich: The attackman was a first-team all-FCIAC selection last year. He will attend UPenn.

• Joe LaSala, Wilton: The 6-foot-3, 225-pound senior defenseman is a three-year starter.

• Pete McMahon, Wilton: The high-scoring senior attackman is bound for brand-new Division I program Bryant.

• Ryan Mulligan, Darien: Another key defensive player for the Blue Wave, Mulligan will attend Division III power Gettysburg.

• Kieran McDonald, Westminster School: OK, so Westminster is in Simsbury — outside Fairfield — but we’d be remiss if we didn’t include the Rye resident and former Hudson Valley ESG standout, a technically sound defender with good size who is bound for North Carolina.

• Brendan Rotanz, Fairfield Prep: At 6-foot-1 and about 180, the big and burly attackman/midfielder helped Fairfield Prep to a state championship last year.

• Brendan Walsh, Ridgefield: The attackman/midfielder will stay close to home in college. He’s decided to play at Fairfield.

• Matt White, Ridgefield: White is a high-scoring attackman who al is bound for Virginia and coming off a strong fall as a star quarterback. We could have written the exact same thing about former John Jay star Chris Bocklet entering last season. At 6-foot-1, 190, White is a bit bigger and stronger than Bocklet. But White is the No. 1-ranked senior in this region by Inside Lacrosse Magazine at No. 6 nationally. (Joe Marasco is close behind at No. 8.)

Great start to the local coverage, Joe! Nice to get some press in Fairfield…I look forward to your fair and insightful commentary having followed your coverage of Sec.1 in NY over the years. Welcome to CT!!!

  2. Admiral says:

Hey Joe….how ’bout Vinnie Canon,Wilton, fast, athletic, strong…Quarterback on the football team with great vision and Chase Bailey, Fairfield Prep, great finisher and an uncanny ability to get open….good off-ball player.

  3. franklyscarlett says:

A few more for you Joe. Tucker Shanley from Prep going to Princeton, Colin Scott from Ridgefield going to Denver, James Fuller from WIlton going to Providence. No offense to listed player but I think Fuller is the best Goalie in FCIAC. Also pretty sure Baker is an offensive middie, least he was when we played them.

  4. Joe Lombardi says:

    FranklyScarlett –

    Excellent additions. Thanks.

I love your name by the way. I have to see “Gone with the Wind” again one of these days.

  5. Syracuse says:

In case you didn’t know, Ridgefield will be playing Somers, Massapequa and Lawrenceville, N.J., our of state. And as you know, former Yorktown and SU legend Roy Colsey is the new head coach.

Ridgefield brings back three of the best position players in the FCIAC and probably the state in attackman Matt White, hybrid attackman/middie Brendan Walsh and d-middie specialist Matt Baker. All three are going D-I.

Darien is likely the class of the FCIAC and state again, but Ridgefield should be very good once their adjustment period subsides.

    Thoughts?

  6. Big T says:

Baker is most definitely not a d-middie specialist…as a matter of fact i dont know if i ever saw him play much defense at all last year…he is known more for his offensive skills.

  7. Coach S. says:

Led by White and Walsh and Company, Ridgefield beat Yorktown at the Daniel Hand Tournament this past Saturday 11-9. (it was 6-6 at halftime). They may have been a suprise last year, but no longer. Ridgefield should be in the Top 25.

  8. syracuse says:

Does anyone have information on the kid Costigan for New Canaan. I need specifics,

    Thanks.
