Video special: Faceoff drills you can do indoors
It’s like a wrestling match for the ball. On the surface, faceoffs seem pretty straightforward. But there’s more to it than that. Lots more.

There weren’t too many dramatic changes from last week, but a few noteworthy ones just the same. Be sure to weigh in with your thoughts.
Not just another scrimmage at Wilton
When Wilton players arrived at their field on Saturday, they were expecting to scrimmage Pomperaug. But first-year coach John Wiseman had other ideas.

Now, it all starts. Yes, folks. Just think about it. From now on (through most of the region at least), we won’t have to talk about scrimmages and precisely what they mean if anything in the grand scheme of things. Because now, our friends in Suffolk, Westchester, Rockland, Putnam and Dutchess are all […]
Now it's time to play for real
Ridgefield edges Yorktown today at the Daniel Hand preseason tournament. West Islip downs Darien in a round-robin scrimmage. Somers enjoys a strong showing at the New Fairfield Shootout. What does it all mean? Now, we’ll know.
Saturday smorgasbord
Senior defenseman-turned middie T.J. Tynan scored three goals today to help Fox Lane open its season with a 10-5 over Section 2s Ballston Spa. Elsewhere, Hen Hud beat Mamaroneck 12-9 and Manhasset handled South Side 13-3. (Jim Stout/MaxPreps.com) Scrimmages. Shootouts. Season openers. This Saturday has it all, my friends. Sad news
The Yorktown lacrosse community lost one of its own today. Former ‘Husker and Syracuse University star Brian Crockett died early this morning in an automobile accident along I-95 in New Jersey that occurred during heavy thunderstorms. He was 26. I was actually on my way over to Yorktown around 11:15 this morning when I received […]
Some big events set for Saturday
For many teams, the preseason officially ends on Saturday. And it will end with a bang with some big events and scrimmages set and a few regular-season games as well.
National rankings: CSH debuts; W. Islip, St. Anthony's, Manhasset move up
Cold Spring Harbor’s 8-6 win over Syosset earned it a spot in the latest Under Armour/Inside Lacrosse national power rankings, which were released today. CSH checks in at No. 11. Syosset, meanwhile, slipped from No. 5 to No. 13. Other teams in the region moved up in the rankings.
Darien, John Jay squaring off in scrimmage
Regional powers Darien and John Jay have been unable to schedule a regular-season meeting the last few years, which is too bad. After all, Darien has captured four straight state titles. John Jay has won four straight Class B championships. Both have been regulars in the national rankings during that time. Today, the teams are […]
Interview: Yorktown's Kevin Interlicchio
Though only a junior, Yorktown’s Kevin Interlicchio not only has his college choice all sewn up (he’ll attend Hopkins), but he’s now a three-year varsity veteran. Kevin Interlicchio has been an impact player for the Yorktown Huskers since the first game of his varsity career as a freshman when he had four goals and three assists […]

Weekend action will be Webcast
The second annual Lacrosse Day of Championships boys/girls lax games featuring Manhasset’s varsity teams will be available on the Sports Webcasting Network.
With Schurr in tow, don't expect Bears to have to rebuild
To hear Briarcliff coach Al Meola tell it, getting Tim Schurr on his staff was nothing short of a coup. The Bears will have a decidedly different look to them when they take the field in 2009. They lost 13 players to graduation and along with them a lot of the teams offensive firepower. But […]
Iona Prep edges John Jay in scrimmage
The Iona Prep Gaels seem to be waging a never-ending battle for respect throughout the region. Despite a groundbreaking season that included wins against traditional Section 1 powers Lakeland/Panas and Somers and a one-goal loss to four-time Class C sectional champ Rye, some still assert the Gaels can’t hang with the big boys. Well today, […]
Chaminade gets past Massapequa

A View from the Dome: Getting to know this 'Cuse character
So what can we all expect from A View from the Dome”? Well, I can assure you I wont spend the scarce available time I have to help out LaxLessons.com with mindless banter about SU lacrosse. Nor will I wax poetic about life on the SU campus. (No, and not the night life either! Though […]

This is the final hybrid week of the preseason. By hybrid we mean a combination of scrimmages and actual games.
Dooley expects Rye to compete against area's elite
The ground is barely thawed but it already seems like its business as usual for Rye. If thats the case, the rest of Section 1 Class C could once again be playing for second. Ryes season ended rather unceremoniously last June with a 7-1 state semifinal loss to Mount Sinai. The Garnets then lost some […]
Interview: Fox Lane's Luke Robinson
It used to be in lacrosse that the goaltending position was usually held down by players with big hearts, but sometimes less than jaw-dropping athleticism. Luke Robinson of Fox Lane High School in Bedford is part of a new breed. The senior is not only one of his team’s best athletes but one of […]

Preseason players to watch: Nassau/Suffolk
As usual, the talent level on Long Island is pretty impressive. And national powers West Islip, Syosset, Manhasset, St. Anthony’s and Garden City are all a big reason for that. Before we get to the players’ list, I’d like to pass along a quick programming note. The high school season will start off with a […]
Syracuse's preseason take on Section 1 lax
There are few in the area who can cut to the chase and break down Section 1 lax in New York better than our friend “Syracuse.” As we often do during the course of the week, we exchange e-mails, and recently, that elicited a response from him that I think gives a real insightful overview […]

College report: Hofstra upsets No. 3 Princeton; other games
it was a busy day of action with some real interesting results. I was on hand at Fairfield for a crucial game between the Stags and visiting Colgate. More on that in a minute. (You can also check out an interview I did after the game with Colgate sophomore midfielder and former Hen Hud […]

I’ve been watching Rob Bosco play lacrosse since he was an eighth-grader on the varsity team at Hen Hud in northern Westchester, where he earned back-to-back all-America honors his junior and senior seasons.
