It’s like a wrestling match for the ball. On the surface, faceoffs seem pretty straightforward. But there’s more to it than that. Lots more.
There weren’t too many dramatic changes from last week, but a few noteworthy ones just the same. Be sure to weigh in with your thoughts.
When Wilton players arrived at their field on Saturday, they were expecting to scrimmage Pomperaug. But first-year coach John Wiseman had other ideas.
John Brandofino, left, who scored 45 goals last season for Mahopac, picked up where he left on Tuesday, scoring six times in the Indians 11-5 win against Fordham Prep. Tyler Perrelle, who had 63 goals a year ago, scored four in the opener for Mahopac, which plays Somers on Thursday. (Jim Stout/MaxPreps.com) 1997. 2006. Those […]
Hey guys, Every Sunday I will post some scores from the weekend that we think you will be interested in. Of course, I’m not going to post everything, but feel free to add in any scores you want. For a look at predictions for this coming week’s games, click here.
Now, it all starts. Yes, folks. Just think about it. From now on (through most of the region at least), we won’t have to talk about scrimmages and precisely what they mean if anything in the grand scheme of things. Because now, our friends in Suffolk, Westchester, Rockland, Putnam and Dutchess are all […]
Ridgefield edges Yorktown today at the Daniel Hand preseason tournament. West Islip downs Darien in a round-robin scrimmage. Somers enjoys a strong showing at the New Fairfield Shootout. What does it all mean? Now, we’ll know.
Senior defenseman-turned middie T.J. Tynan scored three goals today to help Fox Lane open its season with a 10-5 over Section 2s Ballston Spa. Elsewhere, Hen Hud beat Mamaroneck 12-9 and Manhasset handled South Side 13-3. (Jim Stout/MaxPreps.com) Scrimmages. Shootouts. Season openers. This Saturday has it all, my friends. Get live updates […]
The Yorktown lacrosse community lost one of its own today. Former ‘Husker and Syracuse University star Brian Crockett died early this morning in an automobile accident along I-95 in New Jersey that occurred during heavy thunderstorms. He was 26. I was actually on my way over to Yorktown around 11:15 this morning when I received […]
For many teams, the preseason officially ends on Saturday. And it will end with a bang with some big events and scrimmages set and a few regular-season games as well.
Cold Spring Harbor’s 8-6 win over Syosset earned it a spot in the latest Under Armour/Inside Lacrosse national power rankings, which were released today. CSH checks in at No. 11. Syosset, meanwhile, slipped from No. 5 to No. 13. Other teams in the region moved up in the rankings.
Regional powers Darien and John Jay have been unable to schedule a regular-season meeting the last few years, which is too bad. After all, Darien has captured four straight state titles. John Jay has won four straight Class B championships. Both have been regulars in the national rankings during that time. Today, the teams are […]
Though only a junior, Yorktown’s Kevin Interlicchio not only has his college choice all sewn up (he’ll attend Hopkins), but he’s now a three-year varsity veteran. Kevin Interlicchio has been an impact player for the Yorktown Huskers since the first game of his varsity career as a freshman when he had four goals and three assists […]
You can call it the I-95 Showdown. Or not. Anyway, two of the area’s premier programs Rye and Greenwich scrimmaged today.
The second annual Lacrosse Day of Championships boys/girls lax games featuring Manhasset’s varsity teams will be available on the Sports Webcasting Network.
To hear Briarcliff coach Al Meola tell it, getting Tim Schurr on his staff was nothing short of a coup. The Bears will have a decidedly different look to them when they take the field in 2009. They lost 13 players to graduation and along with them a lot of the teams offensive firepower. But […]
The Iona Prep Gaels seem to be waging a never-ending battle for respect throughout the region. Despite a groundbreaking season that included wins against traditional Section 1 powers Lakeland/Panas and Somers and a one-goal loss to four-time Class C sectional champ Rye, some still assert the Gaels can’t hang with the big boys. Well today, […]
Princeton recruit Robert Lucas of Chaminade scored the first of his two goals in the second minute of the game as the Flyers opened their season with a 10-4 victory against Massapequa in Mineola. Chaminade is ranked No. 13 in the LaxLessons preseason Top 25 while Massapequa is No. 15. (Jim Stout/MaxPreps.com) Our friend and […]
Hi folks – Just touched down at West Point a few minutes ago for tonight’s men’s college showdown between Hofstra (4-1), which is sixth in the latest USILA poll, and Army (5-3), which is tied for 20th. It’s Hudson Valley Lacrosse Night here at West Point. There was quite a contingent of Yorktown fans tailgating […]
So what can we all expect from A View from the Dome”? Well, I can assure you I wont spend the scarce available time I have to help out LaxLessons.com with mindless banter about SU lacrosse. Nor will I wax poetic about life on the SU campus. (No, and not the night life either! Though […]
Hey gang – I’ll be heading up and over to West Point today for the 7 p.m. game between Hofstra, which is ranked sixth in the latest USILA national poll, and Army, which is tied for 20th. It will be Hudson Valley Lacrosse Night at West Point.
Are you ready? We sure are. We’ve been talking quite a bit about who the best teams in the region are. But talk is cheap. We decided to do something about it.
This is the final hybrid week of the preseason. By hybrid we mean a combination of scrimmages and actual games.
The ground is barely thawed but it already seems like its business as usual for Rye. If thats the case, the rest of Section 1 Class C could once again be playing for second. Ryes season ended rather unceremoniously last June with a 7-1 state semifinal loss to Mount Sinai. The Garnets then lost some […]
It used to be in lacrosse that the goaltending position was usually held down by players with big hearts, but sometimes less than jaw-dropping athleticism. Luke Robinson of Fox Lane High School in Bedford is part of a new breed. The senior is not only one of his team’s best athletes but one of […]
[singlepic id=87 w=320 h=240 float=left]Yorktown. Consider yourself warned. Fairfield Prep. Beware. You too John Jay. And New Canaan. And Wilton. And all the teams on St. Anthony’s regular-season schedule. Click here for a photo gallery from the Red/Gray Shootout at Somers.
What do you get when you take the No. 4- and No. 10-ranked teams in the nation, throw in two more regional powers and two traditionally strong Section 1 teams? The Red/Gray Shootout at Somers. It’s going on today from 9 a.m. to about 3 p.m. The weather is good. The lacrosse is great. So […]
Late yesterday afternoon, you may have noticed a new link our our homepage and the upper right-hand corner tab of this page labeled “Stats/scores/schedules.” If you clicked on it, you saw a pretty extensive database for boys and girls varsity lax teams from Westchester, Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess, Fairfield, Nassau and Suffolk counties. That […]
Not many teams have played actual games yet but a few have. So there were a few changes in the UnderArmour/Inside Lacrosse national power rankings, which were released today. These are the first in-season rankings. In the meantime, we have some news regarding the debut of the LaxLesson.com regional rankings.
Eddie Loftus in action in Syosset’s 6-3 season-opening win over visiting Garden City. The Duke-bound senior attackman scored four goals. (Jim Stout/MaxPreps.com) For a photo gallery from the game, click here. It wouldn’t have been surprising at all if Syosset had stumbled a bit out of the gate this season. The Braves, who beat Yorktown […]
Most teams throughout the region have not even had a scrimmage yet. But today, two of the powerhouse programs on Long Island will be squaring off in both teams’ season opener.
A total of eight former Section 1 players five from Marist and three from Fairfield were involved in today’s game in Poughkeepsie as Fairfield pulled out an 8-6 victory.
Hope you’ve been enjoying our preseason players to watch tour, folks. We started in Westchester, Rockland, Putnam and Dutchess before heading out to Long Island. Today, we wrap things up in Fairfield.
The Darien Blue Wave will be starting the season in a familiar place as the preseason No. 1 team in Connecticut and a Top 25 team nationally, Dariens surge as a program has been engineered by Jeff Brameier, who is in his 24th year as coach. Brameier, who was named Connecticut coach of the […]
As usual, the talent level on Long Island is pretty impressive. And national powers West Islip, Syosset, Manhasset, St. Anthony’s and Garden City are all a big reason for that. Before we get to the players’ list, I’d like to pass along a quick programming note. The high school season will start off with a […]
There are few in the area who can cut to the chase and break down Section 1 lax in New York better than our friend “Syracuse.” As we often do during the course of the week, we exchange e-mails, and recently, that elicited a response from him that I think gives a real insightful overview […]
All righty, gang. First off, it’s good to be back with you folks. Fortunately, we weren’t apart for long, but I definitely missed you all nevertheless. We will be bringing you up to date daily throughout the day with the latest news and developments in the lax world college, high school, youth […]
